im house training my puppy, he has access to a papered hallway all the time, and goes there 80% of the time, then randomly he goes on the carpet or the sofa! he immediatly knows hes done something wrong and cowers and cries.. he gets praised whenever he goes on paper so why does he go on the carpet? my apartment is tiny so its not cos he cant make it, and sometimes he does it right by the door to the hallway!!

when he goes in the wrong place, be sure to push his nose up to it so he can smell it, then take him to the paper.

be firm and this way he will know to go there everytime.

You shouldn't rub his nose in it as he will not realise what he is being punished for. You should only tell dogs off if you catch them doing something that they shouldnt straight away as afterwards they won't realise what your telling them off for. The only way puppies learn is by being praised when they do someting correctly. So when they do go on the paper or outside them give over the top praise and when they go somewhere they should just pick them up and place them where they should have gone. They'll soon pick it up. You can also buy a special spray from pets shops that you can spray on carpets, sofas etc that deters them from going there again. You should also make a point when they have had a drink or something to eat put them out in the garden in the hope that they will do a wee.

Puppies like babies can't always control when to go. Sometimes they do not know that they need to go until it's too late.

DO NOT rub your dogs nose in his own urine, this is an old wives tale, and doesn't aid you one little bit it house training your puppy.

I have a 3 month old pup, who on the odd occasion has an accident.
I simply pick him up, and put him where I want him to go to the toilet, in my case the garden.

If a pup has an accident, don't tell him off, it is the owners fault for not paying enough attention, not the puppy's. Remember, he is only a baby. You should be able to read the signs for when he is looking to go to the toilet. If there is no sign, then he was probably as surprised as you that it happened.

I don't claim to know it all, but I do know that what I've been taught works.

If your puppy is very young he doesn't have full control of his bladder and bowels so whilst he might want to got to the paper he phsically has just got to go wherever he is. If he's 80% on the paper you're doing well. Persistence will out and try and not tell him off if he doesn't make the paper. The important thing is to clean the area where is does it on the carpet fully using a special cleaner so he is not attracted back by the smell. Good luck

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aL1Qs

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Puppies are just like kids. They get excited and forget the need to "go" he won't be doing it deliberate, it just happens thats where he is when he remembers..

Continue the praise, and introduce treats. Even as a small pup, I would take him out for a wee walk. Even in the garden) 10 mins or so after each meal and give him a treat and praise when he wets or soils.

DONT RUB HIS NOSE IN IT. It doesnt work and you will have a nervous dog. Crate him, its the kindest way. You are giving him far too much space to do his business in. 1 - 2 squares of newspaper or try those puppy pads that actually attract the puppy. Also if you wont crate him, only let him have access to a small part of your home.

Good luck

I have just got a pup too (ten weeks old), mine does random wees in the wrong place too. I think its that they are babies and forget sometimes.
One thing I did read on all the sites I have looked at, that is never to shove their noses in it. Whisk them to the correct place if you catch him in the act and praise as you were doing. Make sure he always gets far more attention for the good behaviour. It will happen in the end. I have also been told that they have relapses too.....just like babies.

at 3 months a domestic dog could be waiting to hold its bladder for a million hour consistent with each and each month that's previous. so 3 months=3hrs 5months=5hrs till one twelve months. Take it out suitable after it eats and each half-hour to an hour. domestic dogs do no longer sniff for a gap...they only pass. quickly the domestic dog will learn the place to pass and you will initiate seeing a sniffing development initiate. This takes time a sufferers. don't get mad on the domestic dog. Its purely doing what or no longer that is responsive to to do. in case you get mad and via it outdoors that is going to start to think of that going out is a punishment, and not "ask" to pass out. you need to use the paintings NO to startle the pup yet do no longer scold. What I actual have completed grew to become into to cling a small Christmas bell down by making use of the floor and as quickly as I take the pup out I ask "you want to pass outdoors" and purely formerly I placed her out...I rang the bell. Took some month yet now, while she has to pass out she makes use of her nostril to ring the bell and that i permit her out....that is especially cool.

yes i fully understand your plight.. i have two m schnauzers and many times 5 months old....... most days they are good but then just when you thought they are to be left on their own without supervision... there they goes again peeing and pooing in places you don't want them too.. i ask many friends and neighbours who adopts m schnauzers and they told me yes it happens mistakes happens partly they are trying to test you and partly they are too excited playing and split second forgotten where they should be doing their business.... spray on the places that they have made their mistakes with vinegar or something to prevent them from going back there to do their business again and if you see them doing it lucky you, quickly carry them and show them where they do it... most important.. be patient.. very trying... but be patient.. think by the time they reach 6 months to a year they should be fine!! i am hoping for mine to be the same a toilet trained dog!!!
good luck!!!
