For all of the "choices" that are out there in life - there are another set of "responsibilities." Most people really don't have that much control over laws, banking rules, insurance rules and cultural expectations. I presume this is what you're getting at.

Life can be very complicated due to various circumstances. How many families could cope with an uninsured driver hitting them and destroying everything they have? Maybe a home taken away. Maybe a child passing. That could change a lot in a family dynamic. Illness, Hurricane Katrina, etc.

The goal is to have enough fortitude, family and friends to help you through trying times. Many that have never suffered a setback in life are truly not that compassionate to those that have endured pain. One cannot judge another's suffering - but it is best to empathize and encourage them forward.

I've often wondered the same thing. The one phrase that always comes to mind for me is the old saying, "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger". Complications in life and how we deal with problems and adversity are what forms our personality and who we become. It's easy to get overwhelmed by all the problems we face on a daily basis and if we view everything with a negative attitude, it's easy to become bitter and depressed. On the other hand, if we try to keep a positive attitude and take one challenge at a time, then we grow into a stronger person. My grandmother used to tell me, "You can learn something from everyone". When I was younger, I never quite understood what she meant, because I would look at someone I thought was an idiot and think, "how can I possibly learn something from this person?". As I got older, I realized that a lot of our wisdom comes from knowing what NOT to do in a particular situation - so I could learn from a bad example what choice NOT to make or what kind of person I did NOT want to become. The same holds true for our own mistakes, don't be afraid to make them, it's how we learn and grow. As someone else answered - if life were perfect, it'd be pretty boring. (Although personally I wouldn't mind having the opportunity to be bored every once in a while!)
Most of why our lives seem so complicated is because we stress over the decisions and choices that we make or need to make - i.e. what if I make the wrong decision?, how will it affect everyone else?, what will the consequences be? Try not to stress out over small things and things that you have no control over. Start small and try to simplify things in your life. Begin with your home, look around, does it give you a peaceful feeling to be there? A cluttered home (I'm not saying you're messy) or lots of things scattered everywhere are visual clutter and can be very stressful. Then work on relationships - do you have needy or clingy friends or family members who constantly make unreasonable demands on your time? You don't have to eliminate these people from your life, but you may need to distance yourself or learn to say "NO" a little more often.
Just remember life is just a series of choices, you make the best decision possible with the info you have and you move on. You can't beat yourself up for making a wrong choice, you just have to learn from it and make a better choice the next time.

You must really be hurting to ask this. I understand, I have asked the same question. The desire for simplicity and peace in our lives is such a strong force.

I am a Christian, so the way I find this peace is to center myself in the Lord. That is, I just connect with him on a prayer level and talk to him.

I am not trying to push you in this direction. ( I do the following plus I pray...) So, I would say on a humanitarian level that at the start of each day, be still and meditate on what you love to think about, like things that bring you peace and joy. Think about what your goals are, set small ones at first, and then ask yourself, what do I want out of life, where do I want my life to be in say, 5 years? ONLY YOU can make this happen.

Stand back and take a good hard look at what is distressing you in your life, and then as much as possible, remove those things, whether it be toxic friends, family or a job that is making you unhappy, or a lifestyle that is creating distress to you, etc.

ALways do something for yourself, whether reading a book, taking a walk in a beautiful place, treat yourself to your fav food, spend time with people that are comfortable to be around.

This is kinda extensive, but look online for some good self-help resources. There are a lot of them.

Here are some that are good:

Because thats life.

Think of yourself as a book, a page per day of life. As you get older the more pages you have. You just have to become your own librarian and sort and file away all the books that you have written and become wiser on how to do it as you get older.
