Sure, I think most people don't bother because they are quite small and usually sour. You must have lucked into one of the sweeter forms.
There are several types that are plum size and good for eating:
Chestnut, Dolgo, Selkirk, Ralph Shay and Calloway.
Even the sour ones make for a wonderful jelly.

Of course you can .They make a nice filling for pies or crumbles and are even better if you add a few blackberries .
The only problem with crab apples is that they are a lot smaller than most apples so therefore take more time to prepare .But they are well worth the effort. Enjoy!

yes you can - crab apples are simply uncultivated apples the orginal apples if you like. You can eat some varieties straight from the tree or you could not we would never have cultivated them.
As they can be a lot sharper than regular apples it is wise to cook them first. Peel and core them and put them in a pan of boiling water and sugar and eat them stewed. Or peel them core them and put them in a baking dish with cinamon a little water and ginger. cover them with a some flour mixed with butter and sugar and serve this up as a crumble.
It is not advisable to make them into cider.

Yeah, it's okay. This one lady that I knew, when she was a kid she used to sit in her crab apple tree with a handful of salt and pick the apples off, dip it in the salt and eat it!

Yes you can and they do nicely in making jelly and also pies because crab apples are usually very tart but can be sweetened up in cooking.

I spent my whole childhood thinking crab apples give you the trots. I'm assuming all these answers saying the opposite disprove that - unless there's a particularly sadistic bunch on Answers today!
