I am doing an assignment on views of occultism. I want to know what you all think of it. Also what you think it is.
Thanks in advance.

Your best bet would be to get ahold of a good Chaos Magician or Quabbalist. But my opinion (as a humble Pagan) is that occultism is generally any means by which someone seeks to effect change beyond the normal channels of action associated with that change. With that definition, everything from prayer to alchemy would be considered occult. But they all deal with the world beyond human senses or sense. :)

That's a pretty broad subject. There are many faiths that fall under occultism, and quite a bit of secular beliefs, as well. Perhap you should narrow your topic a little - maybe a specific "occult" belief or structure, such as Wicca, Alchemy, or the Vampire Culture.....

Occultism as I understand it is basically the belief in witchcraft and relates to the darker side of human nature. I think it is wrong, but then I am a Christian. I suppose if it hurts no one else except the person involved then it's all personal choice.

I believe there are many paths to the sacred & occultism is one of them. All paths are valid. I also believe there are many types of energy in the world and many ways to manipulate this energy. If you find a way that works for you, embrace it. Occultism is a beautiful, intricate, symbolically rich system.

The word occult comes from the Latin occultus (clandestine, hidden, secret), referring to the 'knowledge of the secret' or 'knowledge of the hidden' and often popularly meaning 'knowledge of the supernatural', as opposed to 'knowledge of the visible' or 'knowledge of the measurable', usually referred to as science.

It is believed that adolph Hitler believed and participated in Occult too.
the whole secrecy of occultism attracts curiousity but it is not for the faint hearted.

This is the belief and use of supernatural powers. The Bible warns us not to mess with it. People doing this are messing with demons. I knew someone years ago that did some of this. She was heavily into magic. She aged a lot faster physically. Some "spells" worked. But most worship demons and hope another doesn't have more power, and so forth.

We have the one source of power, Jesus.
Look in the Old Testament for references, such as in Leviticus. I wrote a paper on witchcraft. If you want a copy, e mail me and I'll copy it from word file and attach it and send it to you.

It is a alternative to more common religions, no better and no worse in ideals. Though occultists seem to be more tolerant, peaceful people in general then christians.
