I think the best way to answer this is a quote from the Kevin Smith movie "Dogma":
"Mary gave birth to Christ without having known a man's touch, that's true. But she did have a husband. And do you really think he'd have stayed married to her all those years if he wasn't getting laid? The nature of God and the Virgin Mary, those are leaps of faith. But to believe a married couple never got down? Well, that's just plain gullibility."
After the birth of Jesus, Joseph is pretty much written out of the story as far as the bible is concerned. The bible skips 30 years of Jesus' life (but for further reading, read some of the non-cannonized books of the bible - you'll get a nifty little story about how when Jesus was 10 he pushed his friend off of the roof of the house and killed him, then brought him back to life and you'll read of Jesus's brother) and never further mentions Joseph and Mary's relationship. Most Christians like to believe that because the story of Mary and Joseph ends there was no sex between them.
However, a hypothesis explored in the DaVinci Code (amongst other more credible sources) suggests that Mary and Joseph did, in fact, have other children and also suggests that Mary Magdeline (who also has a non-cannonized book of the bible and is mentioned in unedited versions of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) and Jesus had children of their own and escaped to France. These children became the early royal dynasties of Europe (at least part of this is true, there was an early ruling class in Europe that were all brothers and sisters in several different countries).
Hope this helps.

Neither the Gospel bills nor the early Christians attest to the theory that Mary bore different infants to boot Jesus. The honest knew, for the time of the witness of Scripture and custom, that Jesus grow to be Mary’s purely new child and that she remained a lifelong virgin. The perpetual virginity of Mary has constantly been reconciled with the biblical references to Christ’s brethren by way of a suited understanding of the meaning of the term "brethren." the understanding that the brethren of the Lord have been Jesus’ stepbrothers (infants of Joseph) quite than 0.5-brothers (infants of Mary) grow to be the main elementary one till the time of Jerome (fourth century). It grow to be Jerome who presented the possibility that Christ’s brethren have been easily his cousins, considering the fact that in Jewish idiom cousins have been additionally observed as "brethren." The Catholic Church helps the honest to hold the two view, considering the fact that the two have compatibility with the fact of Mary’s perpetual virginity. today some Protestants are blind to those early ideals concerning Mary’s virginity and the right interpretation of "the brethren of the Lord." And yet, the Protestant Reformers themselves—Martin Luther, John Calvin, and Ulrich Zwingli—commemorated the perpetual virginity of Mary and acknowledged it via fact the coaching of the Bible, as produce different, greater present day Protestants.

OK- let me ask you this....
You know the woman you are married to has given birth to the SON OF GOD.
Are you really going to be concerned about having sex with her??
Not if you are a faithful Jew.
Life isn't all about sex, you know. Learn that and you will be a much happier person!
Oh- 'rangedog'- the Catholic Church NEVER has outlawed Bible reading! In fact, I bet we use more scripture in our Masses than any Protestant church does! The Church outlawed BAD TRANSLATIONS of the Bible- not the Bible itself.
Remember- Jesus didn't give us the Bible- He gave us the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church gave us the Bible! ( as in- it is the inspired word of God, but it was through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that the Catholic Church determined which books were actually scripture!)

They that do, believes she is.
You have to keep in mind, those that were taught that, and adhere to that, are of a church that once outlawed Bible reading.
And still discourages Bible reading.
The Bible records that Jesus had half brothers, their father being Joseph. Joseph was Jesus' step dad.
The existance of half brothers show Mary had a normal life, had normal sexual relations with her husband after the birth of the Christ

She was married, but it is unclear how long Joseph lived after the birth of Mary. Scripture does not speak to the topic and tradition holds he was an older man at the time of their marriage.

Yeah, it even says in the Bible that Jesus had younger siblings. I guess it's just to remember her purity at the occasion of Jesus' conception & birth.
