you will need a trim but for split ends that have split up the hair shaft what you can do is got a section of your hair and twist from the root to the bottom and all the little stray strands of hair you see sticking out trim them.watch you don't slip.do this all over your head.an easier way but not so affective is to put hair in 3 or 4 plaits and do the same thing trim off the little bits that stick out.hope that's a help.

Hey ive recently had the same problem! Im getting married next weekend and ive had to grow my hair for the style I want to wear for the big day so ive had only one trim in like 7 months!
My hair was getting really split at the ends and it looked awful so I tried a Revlon shampoo for dry and damaged hair and my hair looks sooo much better for it.
Still got split ends but they arent noticable any more! Cant wait to get a trim after wedding tho!!! Good luck! x

THe only way to get rid of spit ends is to get them trimmed on a regular basis. EVERY 3-6 weeks! I know you are thinking if I get it trimmed I will loose length but in the end if you dont trim them now while they are small the slipt ends will continue to split and move further up the hair shaft. Ultimatly resulting in a severe cut to toally remove them. Over time if you keep up with the trimmings your hair will grow longer and healthier. I promise!
Also, tell the stlyist I WANT A TRIM just to where the dead ends are. If you have waited to long in btw trimmings and she cuts off a ton of hair she is only cutting the destoryed dont wait as long and he/she wont have to cut so much!

Brush your hair as straight as you can get it, the split ends should then visibly stick out a bit. Then get a trusted friend or family member to carefully go over the split end with the scissors so that they are just cutting the ends that stick out and not the actual hair length.

Make sure they know what cut you want. If there is a picture of somebody with the cut you want show it to them. Ask them for tips but they might advise you to bye the most expensive thing they have. I also have shoulder length hair and I have had tons of split-ends. I did a lot of research and I'm going to try Mane 'n Tail. I have also heard people speak highly of redken and nexxon. But do NOT use pantene, it damages your hair! Hope you get healthy hair soon!

once your hair has split, it cannot repair itself. Make sure the hairdresser only takes the ends off your hair. How bad is the splitting?
Make sure you do either a hot-oil treatment or a deep conditioning treatment once a month to keep on top of the condition. Make sure you treat you hair right, and have a trim every 6-8 weeks or so, depending on how quick your hair grows.
Good luck.

yeah i have one thats really effective though u need some help and a patient helper.im an entertainer and u would expect everyday and everynight ironing, curling and styling of my pity hair.when i have my time off every saturday, ill ask 2 of my niece and my elder sister to find and cut every strand of my hair which has split ends.yeah the hair wont be same lenght anymore but id rather have it this way than cut at the same length and lose some unaffected hair.i always soak them in mayonnaise and after a week i put virgin oil and do my own hot oil at home.

Afraid you can only get rid of split ends by having them cut off. Best way to keep length is to visit hairdresser regularly. My hair grows at rate of about 1.25cm per month. I go to hairdresser about every 12 weeks and have 2 cm cut off.

My grandmother and mom have both told me to do this, and they usually don't agree with each other. They told me to put mayonnaise on them and let them sit a while. Then rinse and condition. You can try that or use a shampoo that helps with split ends, maybe pantene. Hot oil treatments are also very good for dry hair.

I wish I knew the answer to this as my hair doesn't grown beyond a certain length, and gets split easy. I have to get it trimmed regular to keep them at bay!
Only thing that slows it down is certain oil products
