Hello there. How nice to find someone who believes, as I do, that this endless search for the perfect marketing package for a product is totally stupid. We have seen the Coke bottle, for example, go through about twenty three evolutions with many having died on the vine, and been just simple wastes of time and money.
The usual thing we see is a downsizing of the product delivered while the package looks almost the same. This illusion is created by delivering the product in a "thinner" package, or by inserting "filler" space or "filler material" such as printed literature into the package. The end result is that the consumer gets less for about the same cost.
Hershey did this with the Hershey Bar. The thing got thinner and thinner as those molds pressed the chocolate bar tighter and tighter, leaving only the high ridges on the edge to appear the same thickness.
MARS has been experimenting also. I have no idea how much they have to loose in packaging costs before they realize all they need is one small bar, and one big bar. Bundling a bunch of unwrapped bars together is a dumb move for consumers (two or more bars in one pack). The primary reason that it is dumb is that insect pests have a 50 percent greater chance of getting into the open package. With fourty gazillion insect pests in the world, we ceretainly don't need to give them any help by putting sweets in a stupid wrapper.
Cheers,
Zah

Mars and other confectionary manufacturers signed a deal to stop producing King Size portions in order to prevent protests from anti-obeisity pressure groups.
Hence we now get these things which will inevitably work out more expensive because some twonks won't practice any self restraint.

health reasons - eating a whole king size is enough calories for an average man for a whole day and more than likely to give you a coronary if you eat it in one sitting
