I just noticed that my cats got fleas. What flea medicine is the best? In the pet store they suggested advanced once a month, but it's not cheap, so I wanna make sure it works! Did anyone try it? Or is there a better one? I don't mind spending a lot of money on it, as long as it works!
Thanx for help

Frontline Plus works great. It says that it is once a month, but our cat is an indoor cat...so we dose once every six weeks instead...works fine...never seen a flea on her :-)

You can buy it from 1-800-PETMEDS (online), it'll probably be cheaper there. Good Luck :-)

To eliminate fleas, you need to be thorough; in the end it will be less expensive because the fleas will not return.

Fleas spend very little time on the animal. They feed, hop off, and lay eggs. The eggs hatch in about 3 weeks, jump back on and start the whole process again. The eggs can also lay dormant for up to a year.

What you need to do is give the cat a bath, rinse very well, and towel &/or blow dry.

An alternative is to ask the vet for Capstar, which will begin killing fleas within half an hour. There are some very good flea prevention products on the market. My favorite is Frontline Plus. This kills fleas and prevents more from hatching. You apply it once a month.

In addition, you really need to treat your home with a flea “bomb”. My favorite brand is Zodiac with Precor. Kills the fleas and contains a growth inhibitor to prevent more from hatching. Lasts for 7 months. Then apply a premise spray under any large furniture, such as your couch and bed.

Vacuuming daily in addition to other treatments also helps. A warm light in an outlet over a tray of soapy water will drown any stragglers (the warmth attracts the fleas who jump into the tray), but this shouldn’t be necessary if you’ve already “bombed” your house.

If this is an outdoor cat (hopefully not), you may want to treat around your house as well.

For very young kittens (under 8 weeks old) stay with the natural remedies. When they are this young you can't bathe them. First powder them throroughly with cornstarch (safe, but destroys the exoskeletal system of fleas). Then you need to hand pick them off. A flea comb is helpful to do this.

Frontline works the best. I love it. Also, if there are fleas on your pet, then there's probably some in the carpet. So, I'd suggest getting a carpet spray for fleas as well.

i prefer the once amonth liquid medicine called PROGRAM. my cat never has fleas and its real easy to give to him. once a month. no fleas. ive tried the frontline and others that you apply to the back of the neck, and we still had fleas and my cat had a allergic reaction to the neck stuff. i use to get his flea meds from the vet, but they dont use it as much as the other,(peoples choice)cost and demand, so now i order it online and keep a 6 month supply at all times. its not too expensive, but, it works.

Generally, Advanced and Frontline are the best. I have only tried Frontline, it's not very cheap either, but it works a treat.

Good luck!

I find that feline frontline which you can get from your vets is the best. It's a bit more expensive but you get three months worth and it works straight away.

yes, it is expensive, and yes it works. But....my dog started itching badly after this application, and I found out he was just plain allergic to it. So I switched to the other expensive one, which works fine. But that doesnt mean your cat will be allergic...just look for signs of after a few weeks, if it starts scratching obsessively, then you will know.

I've found that Frontline Plus isn't working...even after washing all linens, spreads, rugs....I'd try Advantex
