I have just gone back onto anti -depression tablets, the trouble is sometimes the side effects are a lot worse than the symptoms. I thought the sweats I got were to do with my age..perhaps I was wrong...........

Which one are you on?? I take Effexor XR and drench my sheets and soak my work clothes (I'm a waitress, how pleasant is that for guests and co-workers?). Even doing dishes, the sweat pours outta me. I should weigh one pound with all that I sweat, but I don't loose any weight. :( Any bad symptoms if you skip a dose? So glad I'm not the only sweaty person!

Effexor or Venlafaxine is the drug which generally causes this, I agree with the previous entry, if it works it may be worth putting up with this because although it's embarrasing it's a minor inconvenience in comparison to the pits of depression.
As for some other comments I noted, first of all antidepressants do not make you put weight on, they increase your appetite, but what you chose to eat may put the weight on. If you mange your increased appetite by snacking on fruit and raw veg and take exercise then you will not notice a difference, if you mange it by eating cakes, crisps and chocolate and fail to exercise or exercise enough, then your weight will increase.

If you sweat so much,it could be worth going back to your GP to ask about an alternative anti-depressant.But ont the other hand if this one suits you and is helping you with your depressive symptoms,is it worth persevering with them?
Each anti-depressant has a different effect on each person taking them, when I took them for a spell I couldn't stop yawning and I wasn't tired.(very embarassing!)

I have been on that many different anti depressants I cant even remember the names of them all - I cant say this is a side effect that I get my biggest thing is that they all make me put on weight - when Im not on them I dont put on weight and dont have much trouble losing weight but on them - forget it I have to be really strict with what I eat - even just eating salads with no dressing I still put on weight - I guess we all have something we dont like about them but just think of the quality of life without them

There must be other tablets which will have the same anti-depressant effect but not cause this side-effect. Only trouble is, there might be other side-effects! Er don't get depressed about it

These all sound like symptoms of low blood sugar, which may also result in depression. www.hufa.org has some basic info on low blood sugar.
The doctor can test for this with a fasting blood insulin test or a 6-hour glucose tolerance test. The glucose tolerance test will also rule out diabetes.
Ask your doctor to check you out for this.

Think yourself lucky! My partner has terrible side affects from his anti-depressants. Insomnia, the shakes, mood swings like you wouldn't believe. Lack of sex drive, well, lack of emotion full stop actually. The sweats, pins and needles, loss of memory.......................and these tablets are supposed to help!

Until I read this I never linked the rediculous sweating (especially the night sweats) with anti-depression meds. I thought there was something weird with me. Thanks!
