Witch hazel is a great itch stopper, & calamine lotion is ideal as well (it's soothing). In a pinch...try zincofax or any zinc cream.

If a chigger is a gnat or mosquito, then a) saliva is a good temporary sting reliever b) Germolene is the best thing I've found. It is a local aneasthetic and anti-septic at the same time.

paint bites with clear nail polish. it will suffocate them. but hurry before they spread. there is also something called ChiggerX that is sold over the counter. here in south texas anyway.
