I am 23, and I am seriously considering having dental braces fitted. My teeth are not too bad my main problem being my two front teeth overlap. How long would I have to wear the brace if I was very careful not to break it.

Only an orthodontist can answer this question accurately. I am 30 years old, and will be getting my braces off in December, a total of about 20 months. It depends on what you need. I needed severe correction and was told it would take 2 years, but because I followed directions very carefully, I'm getting done 4 months early.

I have a friend who had hers off in about a year.

It's never too late and definitely worth it! Most orthodontists will do an initial consultation for a reasonable fee or in some cases at no charge. Mine had a no interest payment plan, so except for the adjustments, the process has been painless. :-)

I'm sorry that I didn't get them on sooner.

It really depends on the severity of the overlap but most people have orthodontic (braces) treatment for 18-24 months, sometimes longer for more severe problems. You should set up a consultation with an orthodontist to have them evaluate your bite, teeth overlap, etc. to give you a better idea of what to expect. I think it's great that you would like to have this problem corrected because it is always better the younger you are. Not correcting this problem could lead to periodontal problems later on so if you can do it now, then I suggest you go ahead and do it. I really commend you on caring enough about your teeth to seek treatment. Good luck!!

Anything between 18-36 months or some times even more, depending upon how malaligned your upper and lower arches are. Although there is no age issues about putting on braces, at your age (23) you may be interested to get Instant Orthodontics. Get in touch with the Cosmetic Dentist to check as to how many porcelain veneers and/or crowns would be needed in your case. The cost wise it may still be manageable when 2-4 veneers are suggested. It is just a matter of 15 days job and you through for next 15 years and more. If your case requires more veneers/crowns, you may make a google search for Dental Work Overseas or Dental Work in India or even Hollywood Dream Smile in India, and obtain the cost of treatment.

I had "train-track" braces for years in my teens, followed by another couple of years with a retainer - it made no difference what so ever. Just incredibley uncomfortable for a few days after it gets tightened, and I still have wonky teeth.

These days, I really am not that fussed about how my teeth look - as long as they're clean and white and work!

If your teeth are causing you real problems, and you're not going to have them fitted for a purely cosmetic reason, then go for it, but check with at least 2 different Orthdontists as to how the treatment would work - mine was an absolute bstard. Not only did his breath reek (I know - go figure), he was extremely rude and arrogant, and I'm certain that he took some pleasure from causing kids unneccesary pain and discomfort. I have since changed my dentist from the one who refered me to the "Nazi" Orthodontist, and he tells me that the braces were pointless, it's to do with my jaw-bones, not my teeth, and in fact, acheived nothing! To think I could have gone without all the grief.

It depends, I have permanent braces for 3 years and then a removable one for about 6 months. Mine were bad too and overlapped at the front but also stuck out half an inch. Yours might not take that long. Whatever you do tho, stick to what they say even if it hurts!

If it is an occlusion, it depends. It is worth it if you believe you need orthodontia. We usually, instinctively know if a procedure like that can help us. Go to the orthodontist and see what s/he has to say. Good luck. Misalaigned teeth lead to nothing , as in no teeth left.

Have you thought of getting your 2 front teeth removed and getting porcelain veneers put in? It would happen quickly if you are worried about the time it would take. Here they are $4,000 each, but I am getting all of mine done in Mexico (my whole mouth) for a total of 10,000 pesos (1,000 us dollars) here, it would cost $130,000 for my whole mouth. You could get it done really cheap there & they will do a great job.wait time is from 2 weeks-1 month, but they will give you teeth to put in until you come back (partials)

Being an adult, you may have to have a back tooth removed to make the necessary room. In any case between 12 and 24 months
