They are the smallest of the litter bred with the smallest of another litter...Which makes for very small, sometimes weak puppies..Usually unhealthy. Instead of breeding a runt with a stronger dog, they are making the problem worse by creating these tiny dogs..It's really quite unfair to the dog itself if you ask me..And yes, they do end up with many problems, including respiratory issues such as trachea collapse, heart failure/murmurs..etc. Its very sad actually and needs to end so please don't support it...

There is no such dog as a "teacup" poodle by AKC Standards!
Yes...to achieve "teacup" size often BYB (Back Yard breeders) breed inferior specimens to achieve the stunted size, but more often than no, these tiny puppies suffer from various congenital problems that cause their unusually small stature. They register these puppies with phony kennels (CKC, a kennel BYB use)
I've seen numerous "teacup" poodles, poms, chihuahuas, etc....who are born with heart valve problems, liver shunts and hydrocephalus, which is the true cause of their "teacup" status. So....no, more often than not, these puppies are NOT healthy.
When buying a puppy, you should look for the healthy, robust puppy...not the runt in the corner.

Your size classifications (accepted by Kennel Clubs) are:
Standard Poodle
Miniature Poodle
Toy Poodle
Teacup and Pocket Poodles are names of convenience given to, yes, the runts, and have no official standing.
You get a Teacup by breeding the smaller animals and keeping the smallest. Because you breeding the runts together this size is more prone to aliments and problems than the larger sizes, and don't have a long life expectancy.

I have a teacup poodle and he has no problems at all. Yes they are prone to having problems because the are bred so far down. By akc standards there is no such breed as an teacup poodle, it is just called that because it's so small. My poodle is registered with akc but as a miniature. And he is very healthy!

Any breed called "teacup" will have any number of genetic problems. When a dog is bred too far down in size, it in essence becomes a mutated form.
Whats next? "Micro-mini teacup" ? Some of the genetic tampering in the breeding world is starting to soung frankensteinian!
