Nothing lighter than AOL Active Virus Shield. Consumes less than 10mb of your RAM. Very effective and high detection rates. It is a cut down version of Kaspesky Anti Virus. Try it out.

Avast! 4 Home Edition is the best choice for your computer.

It's light and does not slow your PC. It's free but it's very powerful. You'll find almost all the advanced features that you'll find in a commercial software. It has a very user friendly interface. Once installed you'll never uninstall it.

Download it at

Well, free or paid? AVG doesn't make the pc slow and is free. www.grisoft.com. Avast is good too.

Symantec Client Security ( No, not Norton) is paid and doesn't make the pc slow and is better than Norton which is resource eater.
