Both cocker spaniels and poodles are popular breeds and because of this fact, many have been overbred....meaning that irresponsible breeders have bred them just for money and with little regard for temperament. In my own personal opinion, both breeds have become a bit unstable due to indiscriminate breeding. I noticed that more often than not, faults such as shyness and aggression breed true. If I had kept track of the minor dog breed specific bites that I've received over the past 30 years, I am sure cockapoos would come in first place with poodles and cockers following a close second! As always....look for reputable breeders when buying a pup and avoid "designer" breeds. If you want a mutt, mongerel, or a heinz 57, just buy a generic dog.

Both poodles and cocker spaniels are known for being overly territorial. This is especially true for the cocker. Both breeds are not the best family dogs as they tend to pick one person in the family they attach to. I've never known a cocker that wasn't crabby and I've known a few very crabby poodles. In my early teens we had a cocker/poodle mix and she was the sweetest dog except that she hated small children.

I think it is just a trait of those breeds then you mix em and it brings it out even more.

If the mom or the dad were another race that might exlain why the bad temper. But some poodles are like this. My Aunt had two poodles one was mean and would bite every one of her nephews and nieces, and the other was nice. They found the blood line was mixed wtih another type of dog. The tests are expensive. It is a DNA test.

Standard poodles can be very mean.

Small dogs are always snittier than larger breeds. Everyone worries about sweet innocent pits when small dogs bite more than any.
