How many rules of the road should they be allowed to break.? They ride down one way streets, ride on the pavements, ride through red lights and through pedestrian crossings when pedestrians are crossing. Who else has noticed this? It may be time saving for them but is it not illegal? What happens if they hit someone.?

Tanya G - I have to generalise as every cyclist i have seen has riden through a red light and across a pedestrian crossing. Not one has stopped. So until I see one stop i will stop generalising. As for fitness and no pollution I agree with you. I think it is good that they reduce pollution but they should be made to stick to the rules of the road.

I think they should be made to have some identification number. Not that they should have to pay for it, just register to ride their bike on the roads.

That is a trivky one really. AT tims I fell sorry for cyclists as you can see that drivers of cars are not using their mirrors, so they don't leave any room for the cyclist to get through, but then you do get some idiot cyclists who as you say, don't stop at traffic lights and are constantly riding on pavements.

There are plenty of cycle lanes, but there are so many cars on the road that there isn't any room for the cyclist to use them.

I for one, would never risk my life & cycle around London - driving is scary enough!!!

They should have to pay some kind of insurance though as we nudged a cyclist off his bike, for which we felt awful & paid fully for the damage done, but as it turns out, he should not have been riding his bike as he had recently had a knee operation. We could have sued him as really he was unstable on his bike and therefore a danger on the road. He might have his us rather then us hit him, but you always see the big car as the baddie against a push bike.

Erm can I point something out. I cycle pretty much everywhere.(In London) Not only am I fitter and healthier for it but I do not pollute the enviroment. I get from A to B in record time and I do not need to ride down one way streets, ride through red lights or on pavements. However when I am on my travels I am often being edged off the road by inconsiderate motorists who use our cycle lanes. I cannot tell you the number of times I have nearly been knocked off my bike because someone has not used their mirrors or indicated. How many traffic accidents are caused by cyclists? Please can I advise you not to generalise about cyclists! :)

Morons
Gay Morons

My mate had one come through his windscreen, got dragged to court driving without due care, straight road 60 limit doing 40 following a lorry cycle came from nowhere, riding wrong way on pavement shot straight in to front of car. pled not guilty, found not guilty yet dead cyclists estate still didnt pay for damage to car, cant prosecute dead cyclist. 5 year old car third party insurance, car just was not repairable. plod should have blitz on cyclsits. no lights fine em no bell fine em, across red light, wromng way in one way fine the lot, £100 + vat a time put a smile on Gordon Browns lips.
I used to ride a push bike when I was a kid, raced me mates around the place but we never ran red lights, went the wrong way up one ways or even went without bell or lights and we went a dammed sight faster than these lazy lycra clad morons and we wore wearing duffle coats and scarves carrying a satchell or duffle bag on our backs. Used to get the Huret Speedo against the pin downhill at times 38 mph! 54 to 13 top gear 10 speed 27 " wheels happy days.

Cyclists are like drivers, a significant proportion of them are idiots who pay no attention to other road users. I have seen lots of cyclist breaking the rules of the road and lots cycling in a totally inconsiderate manner. However I have also seen lots of drivers who also display a general lack of consideration.
So it's a bit of a case of the kettle calling the pot black. Everyone is as bad as each other.

Oh and before anyone says 'I never break a single rule etc etc', there are also good drivers and good cyclists.

As for london, everyone drives like an inconsiderate idiot anyway so it's no supprise the cyclists are just as bad.

The ones that stick to the highway code are fine. The ones that go through red lights, overtake on the inside or cycle on the pavement should penalised somehow. After all, if you did that in a motor vehicle you would get a hefty fine. Hampstead Heath is particularly bad with cyclists. Where you see a 'No Cycling' sign, you are sure to see someone pedalling away furiously.

I think they are crazy.

I saw a woman casually cycling all over the place through speeding traffic a few weeks ago in London at the Sheppards Bush roundabout. These cyclists are risking their lives every day in London. They should take the tube instead.

Cyclists are a pain in the ****. They should be made to have insurance as they are a danger and take up too much of the road as far as Im concerned. We need more cycle paths.

The cycle lanes in London are a joke. I've just come back from Copenhagen, the cyclists RULE that city. Ban all cars from the city, that's what I say.

Cyclists are at more risk than people in cars, and theirs alot more cars on the road than cyclists, and they certainly kill alot more people...
As a cyclist, i see more idiotic behaviour from people in cars, vans and trucks directed towards cyclist, pedestrians and other motorised vehicle users than seen from cyclists...
And i find it difficult to imagine the blind stupidity going threw the mind of people that judge cyclists, when most of them see fit to use their car to go to the shops, or commute to work when its 6-7 miles each way to work, just pure laziness and that's why more people are overweight.....
