get him a realy nice thank you card, and write something special in it. also get him the bottle of brandy, and maybe a book so he can enjoy a good read and a nice drink to relax after the hard day of moving house.

A book, a cd or a dvd are good presents of whatever your father most likes. If you want to get a brandy get a fine aged cognac or armagnac and a couple of good quality brandy 'balloons' from which to sip it. You could have the glasses engraved with your fathers name.

Tin

I'd recommend that you go for something thoughtful, it doesn't necessarily have to be expensive. Maybe an album he used to love in his younger days? Or a nicely framed picture/painting (it could be a small one)? He could keep it somewhere significant, where he'll look at it a lot. Or seeing as Winter is coming up - a pair of gloves, or a nice scarf? If he likes movies, how about a DVD?

The bottle of brandy is nice for now :)
Once you get settled into your new place, invite him over for a special dinner.

This pressy is just to show your appreciation so why not get hime a helium balloon with Thank you on and a bottle and some chocs - if he likes them - you can then write in a card that after all the work he has done you want him to put his feet up, relax and enjoy his gifts!.

make him a little gift basket that you can put the brandy in, and maybe add gourmet coffee, or some nice chocolate, or some cookies from his favorite bakery or just put things in that are related to his hobby. For instance if he likes fishing buy him a cople new lures, or if he likes golf put in tees and a box of nice golf balls. whatever you do, he's your dad and he knows that you appreciate him.

Think about what your Dad loves and get something in connection with that, never mind the usual stereotypical present type things. Or you could just get him a simple "world's best Dad" jokey type thing just to show you care and appreciate him. Or take him out for lunch.

Ok....Ok....Ok....
God Idea to get a bottle of brandy....
But....but....
Invite him to go for a walk...
.. and put the first question...
"Dad... do you still remember when I was a little child?..."
I assure you...
It will be an unforgettable day....
To you and to your father....

We once got our dad a mug engraved with the words 'Greatest Dad in the World'. He loves it so much that he uses it everyday and it is a constant reminder to him how much we love him.

A thank you card with a hand made invitation(s) for dinner, whether it be with you cooking or to take him out one on one.
