Do we here in the West not live with the freedom to air our opinions without having to put up with the wrath of others who obviously are so weak willed as to not be able to take it?

Its ok for them to protest outside Westminster Abbey but should us "infidels" go to a mosque (yeah like we'd want to.....not!) we would be beheaded at dawn!!!

Good on the pope for saying what we all think but are to supressed to bloody say....

The Pope made a big blunder for which he apologied. Being the head of a religion he shouldn't have said those things. He should have thought about the responsibilities and the consequences of what he said.By saying those things the Pope has already added fuel to the fire instead of dousing it. This will not only bring hatred among different communities but also voilence. Freedom of speech doesn't mean you can insult any religion. I am not a muslim but i think they have been wronged because of few individuals like Bin Laden and Saddam Hussain. Nikki how would you feel if someone insult Jesus Christ? I think you will react in the same manner.

The pope did not have to apologize, but he chose to. It was probably wise, given that he is a direct representative of a religion, so his comments are naturally regarded as a "religion vs. religion" thing. In the case of the Mohammed cartoons in Denmark earlier this year, Denmark did not apologize - and rightly so - because Denmark as a state had nothing to do with it and protects freedom of speech.

If he didn't, the Muslims would riot around the world and start killing Christians and firebombing Churches......

Wait a sec, that already happened. Guess you're right, he didn't have to apologize and maybe that emperor was right after all.

This is pope we are talking about ..the highest .bishop.
the Bishop of Rome.. as head of the Roman catholic church .
What would happen if every leader starts to bad mouth every one..you and me and everyone pick up arms ie guns .. knives.and kill each other ..this is what some ignorant people would do eventually this includes you and me ..if the pope cant act responsibly .then he should vacate the Vatican..and it is same to every one who is occupying high positions ..promoting hatred we can do without..

So, you say, that you don't apologies to your family or to a person when you upset their feelings. You say to them: I have my right to the freedom of my opinion.
Where do you live? Pope apologized because he knows he did something wrong.

Nikki c: oh NIKKI C-please watch that your pope or his servant will not rape your children, your little boy or girl. You know what I mean, those poor guys can't have women, so the like the innocent ones.

I agree with george_p here it is not because he was wrong, but just to keep these "peaceful" muslims from killing a few thousand people.
