Not all Christians believe in the trinity (a teaching borrowed from paganism) Gods in the form of triads were worshiped long before Jesus came to the earth.
The word 'trinity' doesn't appear even once in the Bible
Neither does the word 'rapture'

Who is the God that said the first commandment? Most Christians identify that God as the person of Jesus Christ, the divine Word made flesh. And yet this God spoke of a Father (not a literal father, for you Moslems out there :)). So the same God who said that you should have no other God before me also said that you should honour his Father, from whom he came. How can this be? Enter the doctrine of the Trinity.
By honouring Christ, we honour the Father, and by honouring the Father, we honour Christ. People are many, but share a common humanity. God is many, but shares a common divinity.
Where are we to look for God in such a pluralistic world as ours? We can look to Christ, who said, "If you have seen me, you have seen the Father".

the holy trinity is the three parts that make up god. i'm not religious but even i know that. even anyone with a limited stretch of the imagination can understand, the father, the son and the holy ghost, the 3 in one, the trinity.

Nope, since the concept of the Holy Trinity, is 3 in 1. They are distinct, yet the same. This is something that I know I will not understand till I get to Heaven.

I'm not a religeous man at all but my understanding of this is simply that the holy trinity is 3 different forms of the same god so this isn't an issue - am i right?

Don't you have three parts to your being (Body soul and spirit)? If you want someone to love you, don't you want them to love all three parts? What would you think of someone who just loved your body? Why is it so difficult to understand, God teaches it in thousands of visuals on earth. human, egg, apple, trees, etc etc, they all have three parts to them. Why can't you comprehend the concept of a God that has three parts. The Bible speaks of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. What do you think He is talking about. If there was just one part the Bible would just say God God God all the time.
By the way, just for your information, that phrase you quoted out of Exodus 20 "no other god" is a misquote, it is actually "no other Gods" It is in the plural in the Hebrew.

A Catholic would argue God is like water - one being capable of manifesting in three states, rather than three beings.
Obviously, an omnipresent entity could manifest in more than one way at once.

The trinity is not heresy as when Jesus was on earth, he said that he will leave his spirit behind. (Which is the Holy Spirit)
