It's a sony vaio fe770g and I use the interactual dvd program that came with the computer. I checked the volume controls and everything is where it should be. I've looked for volume controls and I can't find anything specifically to turn the volume up for the dvd player. What can I do? I have the volume turned all the way up and I can't make out the words anyone is saying.

The volume is at a good level when I play any video clips on myspace or ebaums...so it's dvd specific...

Laptop speakers are notorious for being too quiet, because of their size and positioning on the machine. My suggestion would be to buy some external speakers, you can find them for really cheap if you're not too concerned about audio quality. You can also find battery-operated setups if you want to travel with them. Try a Best Buy or Circuit City or even Wal-Mart. Good luck! ~Scottie

Maybe the volume of the computer itself is too low, not just the volume of the dvdprogram.

Look in the controlbar at the right bottom of your screen, there should be a symbol for volume: if you click it once you can adjust the volume; if you click it twice you'll get a more advance control panel. Wave may not be on 0, or you won't here a thing...

If you don't understand it, you can mail/im me, I also have a laptop (not a sony, but it may be the same principle) - I had some troubles with my microphone in the beginning but I found out how to solve it (maybe it's the same problem...)

ps If I put the volume on max, I practically become deaf, so laptops can be loud!

The Vaio's usually have a keyboard volume control

you can use Fn + F11/F12 or multimedia buttons.

Good Luck

Scot is right, though if you dont want to carry with you bulky speakers i suggest you buy and place in your laptop bag headsets/earphones.
You may also try playing other dvd's perhaps that one has low quality audio?
Also test audio settings of your player which will yield desirable results, some are dolby 2.1, 2.0 5.1, dts, etc.
