I have decided to move closer to family members, so that I have help and support with my children. In a lot of places that are available for rent they say no pets allowed.

What would you do?

My cats are my children and to give one of them up would be to give up a family member. It is hard to find a place that allows animals, but don't give up looking. There are always places that will let you keep them. Try looking for a private landlord instead of an apartment complex. My husband and I just had this problem, one of my cats is a bengal and many places would allow my siamese cats, but didn't want me to take my Bengal because they are a hybird of a wild animal. I fimally found a lady who had an apartment for rent and would let me have her and my other 2 cats. it wasn't what I really wanted, it's upstairs and doesn't have AC, but I didn't have to give my baby away either, so I took it.

I did have to once give up a cat, and I'm still heartbroken over it. She was longhaired and my husband was allergic to her. I gave her to my boss though and I see her 5 days a week.

Whatever you do, make sure your cats have a good home, whether it be with you or someone you know. Never give a cat to someone you don't know, like if you were to put them in the paper for free because you'll never know for sure what happened to that cat.

I would keep looking for a place to live. Or, I'd speak with the management or building owner and explain that I cannot just get rid of my cats... and you might find that some will say, "Well, cats are not like dogs that urinate in the halls or defecate in front of the building where people will complain (like defecating between parked cars and people use that space to get from the driver's side of the vehicle to the sidewalk and have to contend with the "obstacle course.")

Would you move into a building if you had children and the owner said, "No children"?

I cannot, for the life of me, understand how some people say that they "love" their pets but give them away when it becomes an inconvenience... it's not fair to the poor animals!

I was put in that situation 5 years ago when we looking for a place to rent. Most of the places we went to said we couldn't have our cats so we just kept looking until we found one that would allow us. There is no way I would get rid of my babies just because I couldn't move into a house. They go where I go, or I don't go at all.

No I will never give up my cats. Keep searching for a place that you can move in to that takes pets. Try the local pet shelter, they may have some suggestions for places that will rent to you. You can also considering buying, that is what we did and our 6 cats couldn't be happier.

No way would I give up my pets. That would be like giving up a child. Keep looking for a place that allows pets, or even talk to your family to see if one or some of them would be willing to keep the cats for you, so you and the kids can at least visit with them.

there are places to rent that do accept pets, so keep looking, and good luck. In answer to 'would I give up my cats?' then, no way, I have 3 cats and love them all dearly, I couldn't possibly give them up, even if I knew they were going to a good home. They love their mummy too much!!!

no way! I love my 2 cats too much to give them up! anyways it would be highly unlikely if I did that they would be going to the same family and that is just unbareable to split these brothers up, I know the one would die and then the other one would die of a broken heart.

Giving our boys up is never an option if we move we will always search out a place that will alow us to keep them.

don't you have friends where you are that can help you with your children.

Hi Kym...I believe if we take on the responsibility to adopt a pet we must honour that commitment for their lifetime. Therefore, my ultimate concessions have been always to consider finding a home, townhome, condo or an apartment which would be able to accommodate this arrangement as I have done throughout my entire life with my pets. I owe this not only to myself but as a responsibility to my pets I adopted and to other people who don't need to accept another displaced pet.
