it may be an indication of brake-wear. remember that the light is a brake warning, not just for your hand-brake. get it checked into, your brake pads may be in need of changing!

Since when do worn brake pads turn a light on your dash? Are you guys high?
Most probably low brake fluid, or more probably yet, the micro switch that gets engaged when the handbrake is release is broken. You'll have to take the console apart to see this switch, should be right at the base of the handbrake.

Hi - Handbrake light indicates not only that your hand brake is engaged but also indicates
1) Brake pads wear(Specially front ones----checked front and rear ones also).
2) or if your brake pads are in good state, could be your brake fluid level is low ( Due to minor leakages in either master cylinders or brake cylinders--needs inspection/replacement of cylinder cups or cylinders depending on the state) and if no leakages found and that brake pads are in good condition, top up brake fluid level in proportion to the wear of your brake pads)
3) Now if your brake pads are OK and that brake fluid level is in range, then must be an electrical problem.(Stuck switch or bad insulation on wiring, thus completing the circuit that makes your handbrake light on--needs inspection )
Now something very important, when you drive, ALL INDICATORS(Specially those in red) must be off...it applies in general for all cars. Concerning your problem, I will STRONGLY advise you not to drive your car until you solve this(!) because a brake problem can be fatal.

Look to see if the handbrake changes the brightness of the light if so it might be the float in the master cyl. brake reservoir or magnet switch open circuit or the float has not floated up or just low brake fluid.

both brake pads prefer to get replaced or there's a fault contained in the braking gadget. it would want to nicely be a brake line binding. after employing for further or less 20 minutes. placed your hand next to each and every wheel, if one feels hotter than the others then possibilities are intense theres binding in that brake line
