This sounds odd
so lets assume it was bought in the UK, so Sales of Goods Act (2000), and earlier covers the purchase
the goods must be sold fit for the purpose, providing you have a recipt the seller MUST refund, repair of replace withtin at least the warranty period (but I think the repaair and replace it also extends upto six years from pourchase)
" Guarantee one day over the limit because it was incompatible with my TV. ".....totally irrelevant, unless the item was "sold as seen" as seconds or remanufacturered.
Guarantee cannot be adjustred because ti was incompatible - it would only be modified if it was a compromised product (eg some second hand goods are sold with a "tail pipe" warranty - once its delivered warranty ends.... This assumes that the misrepresentation was the label or packaging AND not your interpretation of the lable or packaging - thats the important point the Sales of Goods act protects you from the supplier selling defective goods or poorly packaged goods, it doesn't protect you from your own actions or inability to understand the porduct / packaging. Providing it deos what it says on the box then thats fine.
Label on the box was misleading. - so they should give your money back immedaitely. In fact you have legitiamte cause for a refund because the product wasnt as advertised on the outside of the box.
if you dont have the receipt then you may have to work a bit harder to prove when the item was bought. (most companies can find a specific transaction if it was paid for by credit / debit card
I find it odd that Tesco havent done this, recently I took back a kettle which ceased to work (it was less than 3 months old, a Tesco ownbrand still shiny and obviously newish, didnt have the recipt but they took the kettle back and gave me a new one there and then.
Warrantyis are good providing there is no sign of damage or other misuse - however thre goods should be fit for purpose. Its unreasonable of you to expect to drop, shake or spill liquid on , say an electrcial device unless it expressly says its shockproof or waterproof.. it is reasonable for you to expect the equipment to last several years use. If the device shows signs of damage or wear or scratches etc, then the shoip may have legitmate cause to sya its been abused.
Personally Id go back to the shop it was bought from (preferably with the person who bought the item) - got to thier customer services desk, and calmly state your case. Dont go with a shopping list of complaints that are not linked
-either
it didnt do what was said on the outside of the box
OR
its broken down within the warranty period (bear in mind you may also have a warranty period from the manufacturer - so consider writing to the UK importer of the equipment)
OR Tesco have incorrectly varied the tersm of the warranty
if you go with a contraditory shopping list it just sounds like you are trying to con them......
if that fails consider writing to Tescos head office in Cheshunt
OR
condiser going to your trading statndards office.
in any event you will need proof of purchase, if you cnat prove when and where you bought the product then you are making it very difficult for yourself

I work for tesco and I don't understand what you mean that the guarantee has expired because it doesn't work with your TV. All tesco electrical products are guaranteed for at least 1 year. As long as you have your receipt or other proof of purchase then they will help you. On your receipt is the number for the electrical helpdesk, give them a call.

The guarantee is irrelevant. If you bought a DVD player which doesn't work you are entitled to a refund or an exchange.

buy another one, with that reciept take the broken one back. Say it didnt fit in the space you needed it to, hey presto money back and new dvd player (i wouldnt usually suggest this but if your only 1 day over then its not fair is it? and plus tesco's = more money than the queen)
