It goes into probate which takes about 6 months, during that time the family can agree who should have what. It does not automatically go to the next of kin as per one of the previous answers and it certainly doesnt go to the state, it would only go to the state if there were no living relatives.

the possessions will be removed...either by the family or the council....the money should be shared equally between family members...you could all share the possessions ebtween you or take it to a charity shop...or even get a car boot sale going and make more money from it....like the old saying goes...you cant take it with you when you die....get the family together and ask their opinions find out who wants what....

If its both parents and they dont have a will made up you would be entitled to the house and whatever else but it would take years to get it and if only one parent dies the other parent would get everything hope that helps and i think its safer if ya do up one

not 100% , but think that the state would take over. all creditors will be able to state their claimsfirst , before any money is handed over to next of kin, or perhaps unmarried partner , who can try to lay claim.

Watch the rest of the family come out of the woodwork - especially if there is money involved!!

My understanding is to probate all her assets as quickly as possible. Otherwise no will means anyone can be up for grabs like the government and who ever else.
