According to the bible it is Isaac but it says sacrifice your only son. while isaac was the second born. hmmm
Muslims generally believe it to be ishmael, but god knows best. which would make sense because in the beginning that would have been his only son, and also a more significan't sacrifice. since it's would at that time been his only son.
Christians disregard ishmael as a son since he was "illegitimate".
What makes things worse is Abraham was so obedient to sacrifice his only son, but when it comes to him being polygamous with hajar, he disobeyed god's will.
I believe, Abraham was obedient to god in every respect. His taking hajar was acceptable in the eyes of god. Ishmael was an honorable son of Abraham, and quite possibly the one who was to be sacrificed.

God directed Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac, on a mountain which he would show him. Obedient to the divine command, Abraham took his son, and two servants, and went towards mount Moriah, on which the temple afterwards stood.
On their journey, Isaac said: "Behold the fire and the wood, but where is the sacrifice for a burnt-offering?" Abraham answered, that God would provide one.
When they arrived after three days within the sight of the mountain, Abraham left his servants, and ascended it with his son only. Having bound Isaac, he prepared to sacrifice him; but when about to give the blow, an angel from heaven cried out to him, "Don't hurt the boy or harm him in any way! Now I know that you truly obey God, because you were willing to offer him your only son."
Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in the bushes. So he took the ram and sacrificed it in place of his son.
The angel called out from heaven a second time, "You were willing to offer the Lord your only son, and so he makes you this solemn promise, I will bless you and give you such a large family, that someday your descendants will be more numerous than the stars in the sky or the grains of sand along the beach. They will defeat their enemies and take over the cities where their enemies live. You have obeyed me, and so you and your descendants will be a blessing to all nations on earth."

The fact is, Isaac was the only son God recognized. Ishmael was born out of wedlock, thus of unclean origin. The intent was going to be for Abraham to sacrifice his son. A sacrifice needed to be as pure as possible, Isaac fit the bill being born in wedlock, Ishmael did not. PERIOD.

ISAAC A NEAR SACRIFICE
Isaac was age 25 at Mount Moriah with his dad,
As he was near to sacrificed, dad’s dearest lad,
But an angel held the knife, as they saw a ram,
His horn caught in a bush, as a gift to Abraham.
Twelve years would pass and Sarah passed away,
Three years after Isaac had Rebecca as a wife,
Ten years and Shem, age 600, Noah’s son dies,
Twenty fifth year Abraham rest by Sarah side.
2108 + [25 + 12 + 3 + 10 + 25 =] 75 =
2183 or 1883 before Christ.
Esau and twin Jacob are age 15 and Abraham dies,
Esau at age forty takes canaanites to be wives,
His parents are furious now, as this is not right,
As chosen people of Abraham in both day and night.
So Esau marries Ishmael’s daughter to make amends,
Rebecca had Isaac bless Jacob, Esau it did offend,
Jacob shunned him until Ishmael’s death has been,
Then Rebecca sent him to her Syrian Father’s land.
He returned by the time Joseph was age seventeen,
The brothers sold Joseph to Midianite merchantmen,
They sold him in Egypt, so he became governor then,
All of his family he brought to Egypt in a famine.
They were saved after 215 as pilgrims from Canaan,
At 17 years Jacob died, was buried back in Canaan land,
After 215 years in Rameses Egypt, the Exodus did begin,
Abraham age 75 in 2083 + 215 = 2298
All in Egypt next 215 =2513 + 40 years to promised Land.
1513 before Christ. Now 480 1Ki.6:1 Solomon year four.
Has 36 years to 1Ki.11:42 and dies. 997 BCE.
Isaac 2108 + 180 = 2288 after Eden and 1778 before Christ.

the christians will tell u that Ishamel-pbuh was an illegimate child of Hagar and Abraham-pbut. but it was an order from God to marry Hagar-r.a not any personal choice or Hagar's-r.a choice. and they will say that it was Isaac-pbuh on sacrifise altar.
now if u look at muslims, they beleive both Ishamel and Isaac-pbut are legimate children of Abraham -pbuh via Hagar and Sarah-r.a. and they will say that it was Ishmael -pbuh on the sacrifise altar.
