Hi, after due consideration I have decided that I am still not satisifed with the Pope's apology. Does anyone else agree with me? After all Islam is a religion of peace so why did he say those terrible things?

ps I am a Glasgow Rangers supporter.

i think you need to see his WHOLE lecture before you have a go at him. What has been reported that he said has been taken out of context and blown up out of all proportion.

I'm satisfied, but I still don't understand why people say Islam is a religion of peace. I could understand someone saying Buddhism is or Taoism is, but not Islam. While Christianity has had it's bloody period during the Crusades and the Inquisition, Islam continues to shed blood, mostly innocent.

Before anyone says that it's just extremists, then why don't the governments of Syria, Iran, Indonesia, etc... all come out with a statement condemning the Jihads that have been issued. Why don't all the imams come together with one voice to decry the terrorists? They are few and far between.

In paraphrase of the Bible, they need to remove the plank out of their own eyes before complaining about the speck in others.

The Pope quoted a 14th century emperor to make a point and the Muslim world is up in arms and killing people, such as the Italian nun in Somalia. Yet, the Christians of the world do nothing when we are called devils and worse by the president of Iran and others. Who's religion would you consider more peaceful now?

I'm not sure I like the angry responses to the Pope's comments. Even if what he said was offensive, there is a way forward that involves peace, respect, forgiveness and humility. Islam is a religion of peace. Is it not also a religion of mercy and forgiveness?

A bit of self-reflection could be in order. Moslems should ask themselves why there is such a negative perception of their religion by some people, and how can that perception can be changed, and/or people educated.

Christians also get some bad press from some otherwise good people. In a similar way, we Christians should ask ourselves why we are often seen as intolerant and judgemental, when the Christian ideal is obviously the opposite

I believe that devout Christians and Moslems can stand together in an attempt to create a God-honouring culture of respect, love for others, peace, mercy, forgiveness and non-violence. Such values are central to the Gospel that Christ preached and to the Kingdom that he predicted, and therefore they are also central to Islam, because the prophet Muhammed built upon what Jesus had already taught.

The Pope did not mean to offend, because nobody means to offend those they love.

Why does he have to apologize? He has freedom of speech. He has the right to an opinion. And he obviously thinks that Islam is wrong, otherwise he'd be a Muslim.

And if Islam is a religion of peace, then they need to take the lead in stopping and condemning Muslim extremism. But I see them mostly sitting quietly and letting the Osamas of the world speak for Islam.

I have no doubt that there are peace-loving Muslims. But they are not leading their religion. Their leaders, by tacit consent, are extremists. Also, the number of violent acts by Muslims proves that there is a violent core in much of the Muslim world. Yet, the peace-loving Muslims sit in the wings and do nothing. You know, they wouldn't even have to lift a finger to stop them, if they'd only vocally shout and condemn these acts of terrorism repeatedly so that we could see their character.

We have to be able to accept apologies. What the Pope did was say some words, and now those words have effectively been withdrawn. It is time to let the matter close.

Failure to forgive and forget is the cause of far too much needless violence all over the world. People who drag out conflicts centuries after they've actually finished get stuck in their own sad little worlds and waste a lot of energy getting wound up about things like people crossing themselves or miming playing the flute. Time to get a life.

The Pope said nothing wrong and should not have apologised.

May I ask for evidence that Islam is the religion of peace? Is it the destruction of the World Trade Centre and crashing of the other aircraft on that day? Is it the bombings in Indonesia, Madrid and London? Perhaps it is Muslims blowing up other Muslims and their mosques or the killing of an innocent nun over the weekend.

No, I give up. You tell me.

What exactly is he apologising for? His speech was more about having a go at secularism and that Islam and Christianity should work together to defeat it. His quote was supposed to show how different times are now.

I don't see many atheist groups burning churches or demanding apologies. I suggest all those who are insulted grow up and stop sulking. Find out the full facts before you jump to violence and demands. I know it's difficult with the indocrination that religion gives but try it for once, open your eyes, you blind sheep.

The Muslims should kill the Pope in order to Prove to the World that they are truly peaceful...

Seriously - The Pope only quoted comments that were originally made around 600 years ago and they were not his views - therefore, one should not apologise for someone else's views.

Nonetheless, the Pope should have chosen his words more carefully knowing that most Muslims are not well educated, and are unable to take the true understanding of text in its correct context...

Yes, the religion of peace that already brought down 5 churches and shot a nun and her body guard 4 times to death. Apology? I would declare war and start the new crusades if I was the pope.

i wish the Pope stands his floor. he's have been given to understand that any tutor of weak spot will in user-friendly terms gasoline the ego of those factions that seek for to rule with the aid of the sword. Heartened with the aid of a papal apology they are going to greater assert the rightness of their faith and take even greater suitable steps to lead humanity to an unenviable end. on a similar time as I abhor faith in all its varieties i think of i've got come to a clean appreciate for old Pope Beelzebub. enable's see how this subject evolves.

The only people who say that Islam is a religion of peace are moderate Muslims.
