I would rather live my life as if there is a God, and then die just to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't a God, and then die just to find out there is... Think about it.

Since life is a test of faith and what you believe in Him, im not so sure he will understand your lack of faith.. (Just admit there is a POSSIBILITY that you could b wrong and spend eternity somewhere unimaginably evil...)

Pascals wager was debunked years ago..but i will do it again for you now.

You could just choose to believe that you are going to win a billion dollars...i mean it is possible right?...why don't you just believe it and gear your life around that? What do you got to lose?

Also, your wager gets turned right around on you, if you choose to follow Christianity then what if Islam is the true religion?

There is a lot to be lost by believing in religion. Just by believing in an afterlife you cheapen this life. If you think you are going to live forever then this life loses value. Brevity increases value and if life is eternal then it is cheap. If you knew you only had three days to live, you would get everything you possibly could get done and cherish every moment of it wouldn't you? Well us atheists live our entire lives that way.

Religions divide us, and retard our scientific and moral progress as a species. I could go on and on about the problems religion causes our society, but if you want to know more just pick up your newspaper.

"I am against religion because it teaches us to be satisfied with not understanding the world." Richard Dawkins - Britain's leading intellectual and professor of the Public Understanding of Science at Oxford University

So, what you are saying is that you life your life believing there is a god as an a.ss covering maneuver. That is, you believe in him just in case he does exist, then you can say, hey I believed in you, therefore you should let me into heaven.

Honestly, I'd rather believe in a God or not believe in one because I am convinced that that is the way the universe operates, not thinking of whether it is important what I believe for the moment in which I die. Think about it, if there is a God, don't you think he/she/it would appreciate more that you actually used your head to reach to the conclusion that he/she/it exists than you simply believing to be safe when you die. After all, if he/she/it was powerful enough to create the universe, and to create a human brain, I'm sure he/she/it might not be happy to see it being wasted in simple a.ss-covering as what you are proposing between lines in your question.

I have thought about it when I was younger. I would much rather live my life in reality. While I do enjoy fantasy games, and day dreaming I do not like to actually believe in it.

Life is to short to devote everything to an imaginary God. Release yourself from those shackles of insecurity, and go forth to make everyones life better.

And the long-debunked Pascal's Wager raises its head again...

Your beleif in God won't help you in the slightest if you come to the Pearly Gates and find Allah, Ra, or The Green Man there waiting for you...

I would rather be honest to myself, and be a good person while not attempting to convince myself of something on the 'off-chance' that it's true. I would rather not live my life like a risk-management study.

But hey, that's just me. You - and Blaise Pascal - have a good time with that.

Yeah, once you die and find out the real religion is sometihng ridiculous like Realianism or Mormons and you will go to hell, we'll see how happy you are with your choice.

i live my life believing there is a God of love .. who despite our religious preferances will love us equally
i dont live my life for God but for each moment
i believe that this God would also respect and understand that for some people .. believing is difficult and he/she would admire their logic and need for proof
i believe this God would not be one to cast anyone to eternal damnation for making the " wrong " choice .. if there just so happens to be one .. which i doubt

Hello!! :o) I agree with you. A lot of people - however - will not. And that's because they worship their own intellect. [or at least what they perceive to be their 'intellect'] They see themselves as 'realists'. It should be noted that only an agnostic is a 'skeptic'. An atheist believes - without question - that there is no God. I can only hope that - one day - my faith in God will be as strong as an atheist's faith is in the idea that there IS no God. Craig!! :o)
