One of the chief complaints of many veterans' groups against the US Government was that, when Preisdent Nixon and Secretary of State Kissinger had worked out the peace treaty with North Vietnam and its allies, the United States Government had gone back on its promise to get an accounting of all US service personnel believed to be still in Communist custody. In particular, prior to the signing of the Paris Accords, the US military believed there were approximately 1500 US service personnel being held in Laos by the Pathet Lao, the Communist insurgents. In order to facilitate the peace signing, the US military was ordered to change the status of the 1500 from Missing in Action to Killed in Action. Many veterans' groups still are angry that those names are currently on the Wall.
