In my view the lack of proper education is the root cause of terrorism. If the people are well informed, no body can misguide them, what u think
Congrats for starting such a serious debate.

I feel the cause of Terrorism is Difference Of Opinion. According to these so-called "Terrorists", the acts performed by them are logical and correct. They don't care what the rest of the world thinks about them.
About the question regarding Muslims or Islamic, i feel that the community as a whole has been wronged. I mean, you cant blame the religion if a few followers stray from the teachings. We should remember that, even if most of the terrorists are Muslims(Islamic), not all Muslims(Islamic) are terrorists.

No one religion is the answer. All religion is to blame. Don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to offend anybody but if you look at every war and or "terrorist" than you will see that it all has to do with some sort of religion. In some cases religion can be a beautiful thing but it is the extremists that cause most all the pain around the world both now and centuries ago. I can't wait to see what happens now that the Pope has gotten himself involved. Speaking of the pope, he is a former Nazi. Remember the extremists back then!!!

No cause however lofty it is, in terms of politics or religion, does not justify killing innocent people.
Terrorists are cowards who try to kill scores of people hiding behind a cause -religious or otherwise. They are psychotic killers that get a high from the publicity of their handiwork.
The mental profile of terrorists could be similar...to pursue a narrow cause, mindlessly and relentlessly until a wider destruction is done. The causes could be many.
Terrorism is not limited to a race, religion or a country.
Hatred and inability to sit and talk out the problems are main root causes of terrorism.

the real reason behind this is actually is personal interest of some individuals who brainwash young kids to take up arms in their early life. these individuals dont care about anything and not even any religion. they are just shielding themselves by hiding behind the veil of islam and in the process spoiling the name of the religion and the innocent muslims are paying the price as the fickle minded world needs someone to blame. it is being hyped by dirty politics. the conservative people are falling prey to this ideology and are helping the terrorists. i feel that this "fighting in the name of religion thing-jihad' is just a cover for the terrorists whose actual interests lie elsewhere. to finish them off i think something dramatic needs to be done such as a people oriented revolution against all the dirty politicians of the world as they only trigger violence and bloodshed in the name of nationalism and have deep links with the terrorists.
I AM NOT A MUSLIM AND AM JUST OFFERING MY FRANK BELIEFS NEUTRALLY.

You want to know the root cause of terrorism. It is in our mind. Every one of us, if we feel so strongly about an issue, especially if it happens to be a religious issue, want to cling to it, come what may. People tend to develop a blind attachment to religion or language, more than to themselves. They love their religion more than God. Church or Mosque or temple is regarded more sacred than God-head. If you want to enter into a religious argument, you do not do that with the objective of getting enlightened but to impose your views. When we meet with an opposite view point, you are unable to stomach it. You want to force the issue. Even this use of force is also justified by you in the name of religion. Respect for others views, including religious views, i.e religious tolerance is the solution.
At the practical level, how to combat terrorism? It is a nice thing to say "Spread Love". A pragmatic approach would be to keep combating the evil of terrorism, on its own terms. Propaganda to make the reasonable to see reason is also an option. The press needs to do a lot in bringing out level headed and reasonable view points from people from all strata of society. However, that should not deter the rulers from putting out the fire of hatred with an iron hand.

There are two Kinds of terrorist one are political the other are religious fanatics
Those who are political try to Hurt the Government and Government
reprasentatives, but they can be bribed or negotiated with
they are Naxalite, Maoist, LTTE ULFA and so on
Like the Naxalite have now in India been degenerated to criminal gangs who kill police persoonel and are into Extortion.
The other kind i.e. those who are based o religion strike on grounds of their satanic ideologies and Intollerance they are their and are motivated by their religion
Like the Laskar e toiba, Jaish e Mohmmad, Hizbul Mujhahidden,
who attack Hindu temples and priests , on grounds of
'Kill all Infidels" which is taught to them by their leaders.

YOU dont even know what ISLAM means, how can u say islam=terrorism.ISLAM=PEACE.Its a game that your government did.And u believe that game.Although our country's(Turkey) %99 Muslim,we are oppose war, playing games over ISLAM Religion (Like Osama and Bush),and blaming ISLAM religion for all the bad the things in the world and US and Israel's aboard politics.
There s a group in the world who wants to fight, kill each other, change the world map;but if we respect each others life, religion, culture, economy, believe me there would be no war on earth.

I think the reason for terrorism is that the countries abetting terrorism cannot tolerate the rapid progress of the developed countries-like the WEST or INDIA, so terrorism is rampant there. And they are being funded by the oil-rich middle-east countries. Also the world leaders who can change their mind-set are not bothered coz they are not affected.

People say religion is the cause, (another excuse to not go to church or read the bible to me) but to me its just plain hatred, Weather religion is wiped out they would still find some reason like color of skin or who eats what and who doesn't who is pure of one race which is another form of racism I don’t like, (I’m not pure I’m a Heinz 57, which is a person of many races, but look white) they will find reason no matter what we eliminate. You say fear instead of hate. Its not fear that we have, you see people look it in this way to much, I just don’t like (fill in the blank) I know you mean well, but that question is so broad. Look at the past wars, ww1 and ww2 were not religion based, the Korean war either, the desert storm was just plain domination, the current war is being blamed for religious reasons, but what’s the next reason for the next war, color, race, poor verses rich, who lives right or wrong, will we have wars against gays or the government of our own country like we did in the civil war between the British and the revolutionaries of America did. I don't like war; but I under we have a freedom to protect ourselves from future attacks, I don’t like race or religion being the reasons for war. I don’t like that we cant get along, people say that’s just our freedoms and our right to just disagree, people say its our constitutional right to do this and that, yet when that law is being twisted they argue it. We say freedom of speech, what about think first before you put your foot in your mouth instead, that can get you killed or someone else killed for the words you use. Freedom to bare arms, yet we don’t stop kids and teens killing kids with guns, we need to fight the abusers and the sex offenders that are more dangerous than someone who just happens to be of a different race or religion. People say freedom, some say its just domination of the weak, and some say it’s to eliminate a certain factor that causes problems. But we always choose one thing and call it the biggest, yet even the smallest issue can become bigger. Look how 1 man (bin laden) caused so many to die. Look at Pearl Harbor, how a small fleet caused so much damage. We seek freedom to do as we please, but the cost is larger than the solution sometimes. If you have ever saw that commercial that shows how one person who is helpful to another, can later be the one who is helpful to the next person. This same reaction happens when hate is stepped one person to the next. You ask love, who is willing to start, what direction, where to start, when is the best time and place, why should people love (some people ask for a cause to love) how do we truly start. So many factors so many issues to block or cause disagreement about. Many religious denominations show love by helping feed, cloth and teach, but like others that love is hated.
Its funny our founding fathers wrote the constitution based of religion, yet now we fight the religious people who are just like those who started our government. Twisted huh,
