What is the reasoning for wanting to divorce? Most of the time, you would have to prove something bad was going on in the marriage, like abuse of any kind.

I say, think about it before going through with it.

If you have minor children, don't break it up. Decide to give the children as much harmony as possible even if there is little love. Be good roommates even if you aren't lovers. The children will benefit. Once they are out of the house, you guys can go your separate ways.

You neglected to clarify the reasons you would throw away 17 years of your life and create havoc with your children's lives (if you have them)

Maybe you need to analyze not how but should you do it?

don't- unless there's cheating or abuse, the rest can be worked out.

People think it's better to wait until kids are grown and almost out of the house... my parents divorced after 19 years and it's been devastation on the family... (even after 5years it's still tough)

The How bit is easy.

The Why bit, that's the difficult bit. If you already have an answer to the WHY bit, you wouldn't have to ask how!

Seriously, its not how.. its why.
