I am not a muslim, christian or even a jew so my opinion is frank and fare
furious demands of an apology, threats, riots, violence anything can trigger the so called muslim fury; a novel written by a british indian author, newspaper cartoons in a small nordic country or in the past week a qoute on theology lecture by the head of the roman catholic church,
pope's apology has proven to me beyond the shadow of a doubt that he alone has more brains than the whole islamic leaders and the so called legions of faithfull.
well its the responsibility of everyone including the muslim leaders who have a boiling blood but are 'peaceful people' to sustain world peace something that they dont hold tehmselves accountable for.........so I would say that pope's action has proved once again as to what exactly is the level of intelligence of most the people who got offended by his stating a 'historical fact' and how mature they really are.

Pope as a highest Christian leader should spread love and peace to humanbeing whatever their religion.Humiliating is not good..It makes unrest to muslims around the world. His quoted statement from an old book which was written by non muslim was not valid because in fact at that time Muhammad prophet peace upon him,did not spread out Islamic teaching with sword. So apologize for that I think is wise.

I heard the pope message and I assumed he apologized to keep the peace among the nation. I have no comment on what the priest previously said cause I did not hear it.

What was said can easily be seen as hate, discrimination, and other nasty things.
Pretty much you need to love your enemy; if somebody slaps your left cheek turn your right cheek towards them.
In other words if the Muslems are wrong; let them be wrong. Don't say anything cruel in order to convert or anything like that.
2 wrongs never make a right. If you really want to convert; then convert with love and not hate.

His quotation stated: "Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman."
The Pope could easily have left that out of his speech. But he chose to include it. Bad choice in my opinion.

I don't see why he should apologise for quoting a historical figure in an academic lecture.
