Mankind is special as they are superior to animals due to their intelligence. Broadly speaking all the living entities (humans as well as animals) are involved in certain activities like Eating, Sleeping, Mating and Defending. There might be some differences in the ways we do them but the fact is that humans are also involved in these four basic activities in life just like animals. So isn’t there some difference between humans and animals? If we think a little more we see that humans are special. We are special due to our intelligence, which helps us to discriminate between the right and wrong. So should we just keep on wasting our intelligence on improving the standards of our Eating, Sleeping, Mating and Defending or should there be some better use of this intelligence? The moment we come to this question religion comes in picture.
An intelligent human should aspire to enquire for the reason of this existence. Basically we all are Spirit Souls, who are now conditioned due to our being embodied in these material bodies. There is a supreme controller who created and maintains this world. An intelligent man should learn more and more about the Supreme Personality of Godhead. There are lots many logical facts which help us understand the way things are and the ultimate obligation of human life if to surrender to God. This is achieved by:
1.Chanting Hare Krishna Maha Manta:
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama
Rama Rama Hare Hare
2.Reading/Listening and following Lord’s words http://www.krishna.com/gitaframeset/gita_frameset.html

I don't think there is any obligation. To whom are we obliged? In what way and why?
'Mankind' by definition includes every sentient mind on the planet, so there is no other group or entity to whom we could be obliged. The concept has no meaning, the way you have put it. We can only have an obligation to ourselves, and I reckon it's just to be excellent to one another, and party on, dudes!

Your question assumes facts not established. The question should be "If there is an obligation on the whole of humanity, what is it?"

To give our lives back to he who created us and to humbly accept the gift of salvation through his Son.

But this isn't required. It is a choice. Still, while not a requirement, it is an obligation--to make a distinction.
