To clarify for the PETA nuts...The cat was a stray and basically I was convinced that everything would be ok, easy, simple, clean. All of those things haven't happened. Yes, Pamela...I will get a pet when I have more time and patience. It was a mistake and I'm asking for advice, not a self-empowering message from "perfect" people like yourself. Or maybe some help from someone that's been in my shoes at one point, not a narrow minded woman on her rag that wants to make herself feel better. Thank you to those who helped!! Go to hell Pamela.

If your landlord knew you have a cat and there is no requirement in your lease that you may only have a declawed cat then tell him straight that you refuse to mutilate your cat. A cat is the owner's property, no one can demand that someone damages their own property. And who's damn rug is it anyway? Is it your own or does it come with the flat? Hell rugs can be replaced, toe ends cannot. Buy him a rug and wrap it up in Christmas paper! Never mind that it isn't cheap, this isn't your main concern, the fact is that it is inhumane, extremely painful both at the time of the procedure and for a long time afterwards, and a cat is crippled by declawing just as you would be by definger or detoeing. Whatever you do, do not budge an inch on this. Pay your rent and then start looking for somewhere to live that has a decent ethical landlord and make sure you read the small print on the lease.

I don't think you can be "forced" into doing something you don't want to do unless there's a gun pointed at your head. Even then, there's still a choice, maybe not an appealing one, but that's another can of worms altogether.
I try to keep an objective view on most subjects, but as an avid ailurophile with 10 cats of my own and 9 strays that come to me for food and sanctuary, I'm afraid I'm already biased on this subject and I apologize if I come across "offensive" here.
I personally feel that once you take an animal into your home, you have a lifetime obligation to it; after all, it's a living, breathing creature with real emotions, not a defective object that you can decide that you don't want later! I hate to think that a creature as wonderful as a cat would not be getting all the love it deserves. Please take it to the nearest no-kill shelter and surrender it. Someone who appreciates it will come along and give it what it needs.
In the future, I strongly suggest not getting another cat!

Hi there.....each shelter is different throughout the world. Depending on where you live some shelters will only hold an animal for 48-72 hours and if they are not adopted they will be euthanized. If you could find a no-kill shelter in your region to accept the cat this would be a better alternative, however please bear in mind most of these are full to capacity and turn away many people this time of the year.
If you are located in either the US or Canada another alternative would be to consider posting ads on either Petfinder.com http://www.petfinder.com or Craigslist http://www.craigslist.org/pet/ . On Craigslist select your state then city and then the section "community" and subsection "Pets" to post your ad. Consider asking for a small fee rather than for free ($15-30 per cat--you can negotiate to a free price if you find her the perfect home) to disuade unsavoury people who look for free animals to use for research labs, dog bait training or worse people who like to torture cats. Additionally, mention that you would like to conduct a home inspection once a month for several months to be sure your cats are being well cared for and that they are not given away again.

shelters are awful places. I know you really hate the cat but in a moral sense I would tell you that shelters are a last resort. If you really want it gone, I would take take it to someone to adopt, If you feel bad for the person you gave it to, then put the cat in the paper and have them claim it, hey, its there fault for claiming it. Morally shelters are death traps for cats. don't take him to a shelter. when someone takes the cat, say you can't have animals in the house and you can't take it back if there's a problem, give them the papers on the cat and then the burden is there's to get rid of. but any way, maybe you don't like the cat cause it doesn't like you. and maybe if it has certain things it does to annoy you, it hates you. so maybe this creature will click with another family GIVE IT A CHANCE!!!

Just be careful taking it to an animal shelter. Call first and ask if they are a no kill shelter, and if they are then you can take it there. If they are a shelter that does put cats down, you are basically sending your cat there to die. Ask them where the closest no kill shelter is. Check your phone book.

Just take the cat to you local humain society or animal shelter. You don't have to explain anything to them. Just tell them you don't want it anymore. They'll gladly take it off your hands and find a sutible home for the cat. You can find them on the net, the local directory, or call information.

Take it back to the Cat Protection people and just say it didn't work out and you can't deal with the cat. They will take it back.
Otherwise, advertise in your local shop for someone else to adopt it.

Make sure you take it to a 'no kill' shelter. They will take care of it for as long as it takes for the cat to be adopted. They will ask for a donation, be generous. That should ease the sting of it.

What'sa matter with the cat? Why'd ya take him in the first place? You were 'talked into it? Oh great now you have a living loving creature who probably loves you already & you want to "get rid of it" ? So you figure if it didn't work out you'd just 'get rid of it'? Is this creature just garbage or disposable to you? Please take it to a humane & responsible rescue orginization & don't you EVER get another animal!! Your attitude is disgusting. .PS You can use the word "HATE" when refering to a helpless & beaufiful thing? OOOOO...people like you make me see red. A legal & moral way to "Get RID" of it? You have no morals.

Take the cat to a cat rescue centre or animal sancturay.
You could also advertise for a home for your cat.
