I've only seen it on tv. It is usually green and about the size of a cigar. I assume it is some sort of pain relief. Can somebody expand on this please?

I've seen it many times but the only thing I can specifically remember seeing it on is Survivor when Mike fell in the fire and another time when that guy slipped on the rocks and fell on the wine glass. It is not an endotracheal tube. I think it is like an inhaler of some sort.

Were the people receiving this treatment unconscious or conscious? If they were unconscious, it was probably an oral pharyngeal airway (or OPA) used to keep an unconscious person's airway open. They are usually shaped in a bit of a curve, and they usually come in green or white. If they were conscious, and it went in their nose, it might have been a nasal pharyngeal airway (or NPA) same concept, only it is shaped like a cigar and does come in green. If they had some kind of respiratory complaint (difficulty breathing) it might have been an inhaler, but those are usually shaped like small canisters (about 2 inches tall) in a plastic container with a mouthpiece. They are usually L shaped. One thing I can tell you for sure, is that it's probably not pain medication. Those are usually given by IV.
Hope this helps!

I want to say endotracheal tube, but most are clear (maybe seen a green one once) and much longer than a cigar, and normally narrower than a (good) cigar. even on TV. ET tubes, oral pharyngeal airways, and a suction catheter are about the only things that we put in a patent's mouth, and none normally come in green and are not cigar sized (or shaped). It may be a bite block (which comes in green) to prevent the patient from biting their tongue or damaging their teeth.

Probably an endotracheal tube. It goes down the trachea in order to keep an open airway.
