Box canvas egdes - What is your preference? I usually carry on the...?

...painting round the edges. But some artists paint the edges black, some white. just wondering what you prefer?

I paint the painting around the edges but not in as much detail.

Some people frame their box canvases, if that is the case - then of course, it is a waste of time to paint the edges.

I tend not to frame a box canvas and ALWAYS paint the edges as an extension of the painting itself. I personally think that to leave the edges white or paint them black looks tacky and cheap.

However, there are no fixed rules on this - You are the Artist, you can do what you like.

i did a design using tester paints and masking tape making stripes on a box canvas and continued down the sides as i wasn't framing it and it still looked ok ,but any pictures i've seen from proper artists seem to stop before edges. I think the carrying on you do is fine gives a little extra to the picture.
Ps I'm not an artist was just doing stuff you see on those house decor programs .

If you're having box canvas edges then you've gotta paint round. Painting the edges black is just wrong.......

Leave a frame around your painting before the edge of the canvas. This needn't be a square or rectangle, it could be any shap or just irregular edges.

As a professional framer - I would prefer painting around the edges when I am framing them.
