Does it matter whether I'm looking at a commercial rating or just a private rating? How long does it take to successfully complete any giving flight school? What is the best school to check out & try? I've been crazy about helos since I was "knee-high to a grass-
hopper". Thanks for any positive answers.

Like so many other things, it depends. A private certificate will cost less to earn than a commercial because it requires fewer flight hours. You can expect to pay from $5000 to?. The amount of time it takes will depend on you. If you take a lesson once a month it will take a very long time. If you take a lesson every day the time required will be shorter and the cost less. You should really expect to spend at least $10K. Call and visit several flight schools and inquire. If possible speak with their students and graduates.

To go from start to Commerical/Inst rating here in MS it is around 9 months and $40k ish. The time and money can take longer depending on your learning curve.

Helicopter training is very expensive, go to the military and let them train you for free.
