I have had a Brother fax machine hooked up for 3 years. It is set up to let my answering machine work through it, allows faxes to come through, and use the phone (obviosly not all at the same time) Just about every fax machine made since 2000 has this capabilty.

sure you could. maximum fax machines have a TAD (telephone answering gadget) function. whilst the fax is in TAD mode, it listens to the call spoke back by using the exterior answering gadget. If it detects a fax being despatched, the fax gadget takes over and starts conversing with the fax gadget. If there is not any fax tones, then the fax gadget merely shall we the answering gadget finished the call. On a DSL line, i think of you merely might desire to have the filter out on the jack. Then connect the fax gadget. Then connect the answering gadget to the line / TAD jack on your fax gadget. once you have your gadgets in this order, then the TAD function works. seek for suggestion out of your fax gadget training to be certain setup. you will need your answering gadget to respond to calls promptly, like in 2 rings, so there is adequate time on your fax gadget to renowned if a fax is being despatched. on the same time as this function exists, it is "fragile". I had this setup for awhile, and it did no longer get carry of faxes one hundred% of the time. in case you deliver/get carry of faxes regularly, information superhighway/e mail fax centers are plenty greater effective. it may actual value much less to apply information superhighway fax centers on occasion.
