My kitten is only 2 months old and he has had a bad eye infection and sneezing. i took him to the vet and they gave me terramycin-which never worked-just made him worse. So i took him back and turns out he has mild eye ulcers and felineherpes. So now hes on chloramphen, some antibitoitcs, lycine etc. His eyes still look horrible and im religous on his meds. Anyone have any advice for me? its so hard looking at him- it makes me so sad and i just want my little guy to feel better...please someone with advice?

Ive been to the vet 3 times now- i went just last week and the meds i listed above are the recent ones. I am just wondering if anyone knows any other good meds or tips etc...ive already spent over 400 dollars at the vet for him(his name is Jack)- yet Jack's eyes are still swollen and red. Hes very playful and very spoiled- but he continues to sneeze and his eyes are so bad..I call the vet aswell as if shes a family member always askign her...but she tells me to just stay on the meds...

He has a virus so the antibiotics you are giving him are to stop any secondary infection from setting in (supportive care). It is good you are religious with these as supportive care is essential especially in young, debilitated animals. You are doing a great job with good nutrition and supportive care so keep it up and hopefully you will be rewarded soon!
There are presently no antivirals available for use in animals with FHV-1 however some human antiherpesvirus drugs have been used for ocular lesions (this is new, progressive medicine that is most likely only available through either a study group or a specialist feline vet as many drugs are toxic to cats).
Your vet is doing a really good job using the L-lysine, antibiotics and chlormaphenicol, if you feel your cat is in pain you can most likely call your vet and ask if there are any analgesics you can use, often vets won't make you bring the animal in for a consult and dispense phone in meds, especially if they have seen the animal recently (I'm sure your vet doesn't mind you calling, they want what is best for your pet as well so give it a go). Other than that a specialist is your next step however I would give the course of treatment a go and see what happens.
Good luck with it all
NB: please ignore people who indicate that human meds are "safe for animals" I have treated and lost many pets that have had human meds. DO NOT MEDICATE UNLESS PRESCRIBED BY A VET- IT ONLY LEADS TO TEARS! - sorry about the soapbox but I am really sick of treating animals because a human couldn't be bothered to call the vet first...and these people are the first to complain about cost yet a 2 minute phone call would prevent most problems

I'm sorry to hear about your poor kitten.
The problem with feline herpes (and actually all herpes) is that it is a virus and as you may know, virus don't have cures. The kitten may be on the antibiotic to make sure the herpes lessions don't get infected, but, just the common cold, you have to let the virus pass and the antibiotic won't make them heal any faster. The lysine will help eventually, but it usually works much better at the very start of the virus, and isn't as effective once the virus has a hold on the kitten's immune system.
it sounds like you are being a very caring owner and i am sure if you are patient your baby will get better soon.
good luck!

Your vet is treating your cat correctly as others stated its a virus and the treatments are to prevent a bacterial infection from cropping up.
I have one cat with this and the eyes do get bad. My vet suggested using a weak tea solution as a eye drop to also combat the virus as a ingredient in tea (forgot what the vet said it was in tea) has antiviral properties like the lysine does. He said plain tea bag not flavored red rose he suggested. Heat a cup of water and dunk the tea bag in it quickly like 3 dunks just till the tea has barely colored the water. Let it cool to room temperture. Then use a eye dropper and put a drop in each eye 3 times a day. this has helped my cat with the eyes. You can ask your vet if she feels this is ok. For my cat it has helped alot. I know how you feel about your poor cats eyes. They do look so sore and bad.

If you have old antibiotics give them to him, on a regular basis every 4 or 6 hrs. You will want to break them if tabs. and they are like 500mg. to 250 he is so small. If caps. open and pour out half. Use neosporin for his eye, put suave on your finger and put a little in his eyes and rub some on the lid. Clean it every 8 hrs. I have doctored lots of cats and dogs. it is safe, they can take anything you can. If the other meds. are not working I would stop them. I hope he gets better, my little Persian had a cold in his eye, he is 2 months also. I used neosporin and he is fine, his blue eyes are clear. He is an $800.00 cat, I doctor him my self. Good Luck.

Hi there
I don't know anything about cat medications but I've found giving our moggies the best nutrition around, has helped to keep all our cats well, and they have all lived from 15 years upwards.
I'm so sorry to hear about your poor little kitten, I know it's heart breaking to see such a little one suffer.
Wishing you and your kitten all the best.

Is he in pain? does every single one of his days start with him not wanting to do anything?
In most cases this could be the result of food. Try swicthing him to nutro. and and vitamins to his diet. If what he has hinders his young life then take tot he vet and help him not to suffer anymore.
good luck

I've never take my cat to see any vet until at his age almost 8 years old and still healthy.
Try to cut grass (soft one) and make it into juices and let your kitten drink and wipe his eyes as this their 'natural medicine'.
Hopefully it's work for him and would ease your sadness.
