Recently, in maybe the last 4-5 weeks, ive had this issue where just when im about to fall asleep, i will jump and be wide awake. This repeatedly happens when i am just about to fall asleep. I'm not sure why this is or what for that reason. Please share anything you may know. Thank You

I too feel like slipping out of sleep abruptly when I am too tired. Also it happens when one is on drugs or alcohol, I believe. Coffee is also the culprit. The antidepressants and sedatives will act like stimulants as well as tranquilizers/sedatives, depending on the dosages and our metabolism and mental makeup.

In such circumstances it is better to take a glass of water and go back to sleep. It just happens to all the people and it happens during the first stage of sleep cycle. Once we reach the later stage, I think 2nd or 3rd stage (is it called rapid eye movement stage) where it is theorized we dream, and that jumping or slipping out of sleep may not happen there. There is lot of experimentation going in sleep psychology and the phenomenon of sleep continues to intrigue scientists.

Think, I read, once, in a book on astral travel, that your astral body rises up about 3 inches out of your physical body, upon falling to sleep, in preparation to travel. If something should startle you, before you begin, the astral body drops back into the physical body; hense, the falling sensation. Don't know if this is what you're experiencing.

Sounds as if you need to go see your family doctor and get a referral to have sleep study done. ALso he night send you to a pulmonary doctor. This was on way I found out I had sleep apnea and COPD.

If you smoke, I can assure you the above is 10 times as likely to be the case. DONOT put this off.

It's your brain doing a "system check" on your reflexes, when sending the info to your muscles your brain checks that your muscles react the way they're supposed to. I can't tell why it happens so constantly though.

i hate not to have an answer, but i have the same issue. some say it is my nerves, i would say go to the neurologist and have them not just do a sleep study but to see why your nerves are so jumpy. panic attacks, or whatever and when you do share it.

its cause, normally ur right side or the right hand is more strong, so u tend to give more pressure on that side.

FACT OF LIFE- ANTS WHEN INTOXICATED ALWAYS FALL ON THE RIGHT SIDE ;-)
