Well I was in school and know that they teach evolution in a book also, and it too can't be proven...........

Why down us for believing the Word of Jesus Christ..

Aren't you having faith in a book and what people say without it been proven?

It was suggested that you don't believe EVERYthing you read. You interpret this as believing you are told not to believe ANYthing you read. Understanding this is perhaps another level of thinking for you, but keep with it. Try this guide:

1) Read something.
2) Consider whether the arguments convince you. To do this critically, you should look for FLAWS (arguments which leave many possibilities still open).
3) If the flaws are accounted for by further persuasive argument, then those particular flaws may (though not necessarily) be discounted. It does not mean there are no futher logical flaws though - keep looking.
4) Only believe something if you have looked hard for logical errors, contradictions and inconsistencies, at as high a level as you can manage, and you cannot find any of significance. And even then, don't presume what you have discovered is right. It takes a lot of different people to uncover every single problem with an argument, which is why we need discussions like this.

You'll find the works on evolution hold up pretty well against this model of thinking. The Bible doesn't. Hope this helps.

What is it with people having such crappy spelling and grammar? I swear, it's like you never got past the fifth grade. Actually, that'd be giving you too much credit, but that's a whole different story. Besides the fact that you can't write to save your life, you're also extremely ignorant and apparently you enjoy rambling about things without doing an ounce of research on what it is you're rambling about. You obviously have the internet because you posted this stupid question, so why not use it to educate yourself? There is plenty of concrete evidence supporting evolution...what concrete evidence do you have to support the Bible, a book written not by, but according to, something someone else said, a long time before the book was written? There's no fact to it, and a plethora of fact behind the theory of evolution.

In my opinion, those who wrote down the Bible never would presume to say how God created, only that He created everything and did it in an orderly fashion. After all, what is 1 day to God - the eternal being? I wouldn't even presume to guess - I also wouldn't know how to express the passage of time for an eternal being so I would have to use human terms - since God's sense of time would be beyond my ability to understand. That is what I think the writers of the BIble especially Genesis did. They told the story in terms they could understand since no man can comprehend the mind of God.

Evolution tries to use science to describe the process. If you knew about evolution I think you would see that the Bible is right but just not scientific.

As for proof, carbon dating proves within 100 years how old anything is. Human DNA has been mapped. Gene mapping proves how we are related to one another and the animal world. A geneticist can tell you whose genes are similar to ours and the degree of difference. This is not speculation or theory. It's fact.

By the way, I'm a Christian and when I heard of the "Big Bang" theory of how the universe began, it reminded me of "And God said 'let there be light', and there was light."
I think if you investigated science more closely, you would see that Genesis is not contradicted.

I believe it is important to question anything one reads...anywhere. In an era of irresponsible blogs and out-of-control journalists, it is important to gather as much information on a topic as possible before even considering coming to any conclusions.

BTW, there is a great body of evidence for the theory of evolution. I'm not sure how much proof you need but you must apply the same standard to both if you want them to be considered as equal theories. If, on the other hand, you want to declare it a matter of faith, I have no problem with that; just keep it out of the schools.

I'm a skeptical of as much as I know to be. I do wonder about the accuracy of everything I am told or I read. Evolution make so much more sense, If you sit down and think about it in comparison with these other ideas it just makes more sense. There is nothing to my gain in believing that I evolved, other than thinking I am smarter than you bible thumpers, but there is much to be gained from believing there is this all mighty god that will save me from death. One would make me feel better and one, evolution, has more sensible evidence to support it and gives me little comfort.

And because I can watch people who make decisions and claim to believe things about themselves and others for the purpose of comforting their worried minds I can't help but think that religion does this same thing.

evolution can be proven and has been
what the ignorant try to confuse the issue with is equating evolution with a complete fossil record of mans evolution.

While not natural selection , but obviously easier for the ignorant to understand is look at a dog they are descended from wolves. look at the different breeds even with in breeds new breeds are created and thing bred in and out.

Religion requires blind faith, evolution only observation and logic. I dont be.live it because I read it in a book ,that would be stupid (like the bible), I observe and reason and confirm the scientific method. You should read Darwins book it is quite logical and simple that even the ignorant can understand

Oh my.. Well I never told Christians not to believe everything they read, just to use common sense.

Evolution is fairly easy to grasp. It is easy to prove, and has evidence. It does not contradict with other sciences.

Anyways, I do not *believe* in Evolution. I agree with it. There is a huge difference. See I can change my views without changing my entire life style.

Speciation has been proven in labs arround the world. Get an education and then you can conduct the same tests others have.

Thr trouble for you is that evolution has that little thing called "evidence"

http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/comdesc/

I don't need to believe in a book, I have PROOF.

pity that you're too uneducated to know the difference.

2006-09-18 02:45:46 · answer #10 · answered by Anonymous · 3 2

You are right. Evolution has not been observed in a laboratory, thus it isn't "proven". No one has ever observed a species evolve into a different one.
