You probably feel angry with yourself, as in "if I'd been more careful it wouldn't have happened." But that's just not true; you got "had" by a predator who would have clipped anyone coming along and is probably much more experienced at robbing/mugging people than you are at protecting yourself. Many people feel angry, as if somehow they'd been "stupid" to let it happen. But it isn't your fault, you didn't ask this person to lead a life of crime. You feel invaded which is natural. Ride the feelings out so that they don't ride you, and don't let this frighten you into becoming paranoid.
All the best.

.It is very common for victims of crime to feel guilty about the occurrence - Don't, it was not your fault at any level. It was the fault of the person/persons who robbed you.
The reason for the feeling of guilt is complex, you wonder if you had done things differently that it wouldn't have happened (what I call the "If only....") syndrome.
You are also very angry, but because you can't take this out on the perpetrators, you are directing the anger back at yourself - sometimes energetic physical exercise can help with this.
You are also feeling powerless, as you had not been able to prevent the attack once it started. You were being sensible, had you resisted more, or fought back successfully, you may have ended up in hospital, or worse, or you may have been seen as the aggressor if you had really got the better of your attackers.
I hope you are going to be OK. An incident like this can leave scars for a very long time, not to mention the practical financial issues if you are not wealthy.
If you feel you can't cope with your feelings about this, get in touch with your local Victim Support Scheme, they are very experienced in helping people through these difficult feelings. You will find their address and telephone number in the phone book, or ask at your local police station.
Good Luck.

that reminds me of when we were burgled, back home. the cops came and tried to make us feel guitly, because we had see-through curtains, which means the thief was watching us and broke in a few minutes after seeing the lounge light go off. they then proceeded to point out, that we did not have our gates closed. they were quite irratated with us, as they feel that in this day and age we should all be alert to criminals and can do some things to avoid some of these situations. this is fair enough, but very sad ,that it does induce feelings of guilt.
hope you feel better by now.

Wow, how terrible! You feel guilty, as part of the mixed emotions you feel as the victim. What happened to you was terrible, and your emotions are on super sensitive right now.
What the person did was unthinkable, and you were immune to this danger until it happened to you.
Don't worry Hon, the feeling will go away. I hope they caught the guy!

We're all born with guilt! Actually, I think it is the British in us. We hate having a fuss made, think we should have been better prepared, etc etc. We're all told to hide our things, look over our shoulder and the onus is on us not to be the victim of crime. Which is ridiculous. We cannot control the minds of others.
The person who committed the crime, was the robber, not you. Sorry to hear about your turmoil, though. Good luck.

Of course you are not guilty, it is robber. I am sure that it is only natural that you are feeling rather venerable after this attack and not quite seeing things in their true light. Do not worry you will be able to get over it quite quickly.

It's the 'if only' syndrome. If only I hadn't gone that way, if only I'd stayed ten minutes longer and so on. It will pass.
Don't get sad, get mad.
That's very cathartic!
