Is your church focused on tithing? Do they repeat it, explain it every Sunday? In the past month I've attended Church every single sermon becomes a sermon about tithing, & every time they go into detail about what it means. yes I tith, Even though I am not earning an income. I give what I can even though I could really use what I'm giving. So as some one that is tithing I am getting very sick of hearing this every Sunday and I leave church feeling angry that they are so focused on it. Today they started saying tith and if you don't get it back we'll refund your money (basically) that's completely not what I've believed, I always felt if you give it with intention of getting it back that it's not giving at all! They also said give 10% of everything gifts, money u earn money you've be trusted etc. I thought it's suppose to be on what your earn (your produce). If u choose to give more great! What u give to charities, needy, give your time counts right? According 2 them No! Give 10% too

This makes since too me... I really don't think it HAS to go to the church directly. In Deuteronomy 26:12, the Torah commands Jews to give one-tenth of their produce to the poor (Ma'aser Ani). The commentaries derive from this and from an earlier verse (Deut. 14:22) that a Jew is obliged to give one-tenth of all his earnings to the poor.

Compared to teh people in my church I AM the poor. So I really don't want to hear any more sermons on tithing.

I feel it can be given directly to the poor or some other cause, it hurts to leave church ans see "Members" past by a homeless person to go to their cars to drive to they big houses. I understand you do['t always want to give them money but food is just a s good hopefully they'll eat it.

LOL. The church is looking to renovate yes, and has started too, but now it seems they are scraping that idea still renovatioing but planning on moving to a bigger building? Still I think they are overly PUSHING it. As you say you tith from your earnings and that's not goign to be EVERY sunday. Keep in mind this ia place where millionares go too church too! I just really feel like they are being greedy harping on the subject.

Unfortunately many churches don't understand the law of tithing and some evangelical preachers actually push it as a way to fund their extravigent life styles.

A tithe is a tenth of your increase. The money is supposed to be used for the building of the kingdom of god here on earth. None of the money should be going to paid clergy. The money should be used for building meeting houses, helping the poor and providing education.

Just give the amount that you want to give or think you can afford to give. If it bothers you so much, you must discuss it with the priest or pastor.
There are varying interpretations as to the 10%. Some even say the money you spend for taking your children out can be part of tithes. So it all depends on your priest or pastor.
Perhaps to help you put things in perspective, just remember that there a lot more needy than you. So if you think you have very little, there are still a lot more who have nothing at all.

churches shouldn't do sermons on tithing, a few times a year is acceptable. But they should pass the plate and you should give 10% of your increase.

looking at Deu 26:12 though i suppose not the whole 10% should goto the church (levites) but some to the poor as well.

the tithe is supposed to mean you don't own anything, its all God's. It is also suppose to pay the wages for the minister, who prays and studies the Bible for 4-6 hours a day and does Bible work every other day except sabbath and prayer nights.

It is used to get books and things to give them for free, and to fund church things like lunch, missionaries etc.

Try a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses and see the difference the truth makes. No plates are passed ever and tithing is given only as much significance as any other subject in the Bible. God does not need your money and would not want to create a hardship for you. Tithing is designed to give you a blessing as well as to be a blessing for the work for which it is used (furthering Kingdom interests). And, you said correctly, it is 10% of all your valuable things--the most valuable of which is time as it can never be replaced.

The practice of tithing is no longer applicable because of the following reasons:

- Tithes applied only to agricultural materials and livestock (Levicticus 27:30-32); this is why when Jesus chased away the moneychangers, there were oxen and sheep and doves (John 2: 13-16): they exchanged money for animals. If you want to give a tithe now, give it to them in sacks of wheat or heads of cattle...
- Tithes could only be received by the Levites (Numbers 18: 21); unless the minister of the local church you go to is also a Levite, he cannot ask for the tithe.

I am very sure you are sick and tired of hearing Malachi 3: 8-10, and how many churches misuse this verse to justify tithing. These verses I say are misused because when Malachi said these words, the Israelites were tithing. The question was not the presence of the tithe but of the quality of the tithe (Malachi 1: 7-8) and the heart of the people giving the tithe (Malachi 1: 12-14). Thus, when Malachi asks for the whole tithe, he asks not for the material portion (as that is being given) but for the spiritual portion (coming from the heart of the giver).

So how do we then give to the Lord? If you really want to tithe, it can no longer be 10%, but 100%! Does that mean we give all to the church? No...

Luke 16:1-15 speaks of a parable of a manager who misused the goods of his master. In that parable, we are all managers of the goods of the master, thus all that we have already belongs to God, and tithing is but an insufficient show. As stewards, we must then be responsible in how we deal with the entirety of our wealth. We must use the wealth that we have for the making of friends in everlasting habitations (the bringing of others closer to God); thus, tithing is not the solution.

And what of the 10% that every minister says is a must? Let us look at the book of Luke...

"Then He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, "Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty has put in all the livelihood that she had." - Luke 21: 1-4

This does not merely speak of a numerical obligation, for surely the offerings given by the rich could be more than 10%, and surely the offering of the poor widow is more like 100%. Rather, it is a spiritual obligation, given by the moving of the Spirit of God. Indeed...

"So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver." - 2 Corinthians 9: 7

It is therefore not us, but God, who decides what we should give and to whom we give it to. To put a 10% demarcation can actually hinder the work of God, and to decide that it is a mandatory offering to the church you attend can actually take resources away from where God wants it sent.

So, when you give / minister of what already belongs to the Lord, let the Lord lead your heart in what it should be used for, not the minister of your church.

We don't pass the plate in church. We pay a tithe. 40% of members do. There are maybe 2 or 3 times it will be discussed in a talk. At the end of the year, we have a conference to declare whether or not we are full tithe payers.

As Bono sang ("Bullet the Blue Sky" on the "Rattle and Hum" album), "the God I believe in isn't short of cash, mister!"

Many American churches have been corrupted by the all-mighty dollar. The church is supposed to save souls, not beg for bucks.

Don't let them pressure you into giving more than you can afford. God doesn't want you to declare bankruptcy. Giving is from the heart. Give to the organizations that make a difference.

Consider a different church. Good luck!

A lot of Churches prey on that one passage in the Bible to make money...it's a business. Often it sends people on Guilt trips.

Give what you can in the form of an offering until you get paid from your job and then, give the tenth. The tenth is spoken of in Malachi. You'll always receive according to the Promised Word of God when you give accordingly to his will. He'll bless you with favor as you obey his will and will rebuke the devourer (your enemies ) for your sake.

A church, I've been visiting, has been doing that a lot at every sermon.
I was baptized Catholic when I was little. We were taught to give and how to tithe according to the will of God, but they don't keep talking about it.

We love to help people and we give on our own. It's something that's from our hearts, we want to do, and we honor the LORD and Thank him for blessing us to be a blessing to others.

People who are Christian know what they are suppose to do as our instructions are written in the Bible, so we don't need to be reminded to tithe more than we need to be reminded to keep the commandments and spread the word.

Once tithing has been taught to the people they shouldn't have to be BROW BEATEN in every service about it. If the Church presisted in teaching to, "LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOU LOVE YOURSELF", which is the greatest commandment, then their contribution to the body of the church would be considered great.

Whatever you do that pleases the LORD in a form of giving, whether it's time, or monetary, and you do it in his name, then you'll be blessed.

He shows you he's favoring you and your walk with him and your personal relationship with him is all that you need.

Pray for your Church Body..giving your concerns to the LORD about how they're constantly reminding the congregation about tithing and he'll take care of it.

I don't visit the church that keeps talking about tithes as much as I use to because I became completely turned off.

I just tithe in my own church now. God Bless You...tell him everything...he'll know what you're talking about because I told him already.

nicely.. on the same time as the old testomony emphasises Tithing the hot testomony emphasises Giving, listed below are some techniques on the grace of Giving. i think of that the thought of tithing is robust and each Christian could try as a consequence, yet people who're wealthy could supply plenty greater desirable than the Tithe. The scriptures says "from all of us who has been given plenty shall plenty be required" Luke 12:4 it is not a foul concept, yet merely as long as they are additionally coaching that it rather is a spiritual concern of the midsection ...... even yet it rather is not any longer madated nor could be over emphasised ! --- God BLess !

I think some churches do dwell on this too much. A sermon once or twice a year on it is enough. My mom's church even offered to set up your bank account withdrawal to give to the church. My own church rarely brings it up. I tithe on what income is earned.
