Man I'm really irritated that I didn't think of this matchup! Great one Brad. Man this one is a toughie! Jones always in top condition but so was Hagler. Both could slug and box. Jones has the edge in foot and hand speed. Hagler had the much better chin. Hagler was better skilled in the orthodox arts of boxing but Jones was so damn fast he could throw punches when he looked way off balance and from unorthodox angles. I've seen him knockout guys when he looked like he was falling backwards.
I don't think Jones would mix it up with Hagler for fear of getting pummeled. The fight would be reminiscent of the Jones/Hopkins fight. I don't think Jones does enough to win, because of his cautious approach. Hagler wins a strategic fight by split decision. Roy should have been more aggressive in this dream matchup.

Hey Brad Morris! This is a very interesting matchup. Roy Jones has the advantage in hand speed but Hagler is a much better ring technician with an iron jaw. Marvelous Marvin Hagler is truly a ring great and a fearless fighter like the old school fighters. In this bout I believe that Hagler would get the better of the exchanges and not allow Jones to get away with some of his bizzare ring techniques and knock him out in the 11th round.

I hate to correct you because I know how sensitive you are. I have previously deemed that all Dream Bouts are 15 rds. Plus you also said that those 3 extra rds were championship rds.
Hagler - W 62 (KO's 51) TF 67 - W pct 93% - KO pct 76% - wins over A. Minter, Hearns, Duran, Hamsho, Mugabi, R. Seals, Briscoe and W. Monroe{3} - KO'ed by none - #35 ranked puncher - #17 ranked fighter
Jones W 50 (KO's 38) TF 54 - W pct 93% - KO pct 70% - wins over Hopkins, Toney, McCallum and V. Hill - KO'ed by Tarver and G. Johnson (average fighter) - #89 ranked puncher - #44 ranked fighter
Great defensive skills/unparalleled speed (All this hid a weak chin)
Held titles 160, 168, 175 and Hwy wt
Jones would have a chance if the bout went 12 rds. In this fight, Hagler will have learned his lesson to not be overly cautious like he was in the Duran fight. Plus Hagler wants to hush Roy's big mouth and Hagler also feels that he is not getting enough respect. Hagler presses Roy through out the fight. As the bout progresses everybody is surprised by Roy's weak chin. Hagler puts out Jones' lights in rd 10.

Real good fight and a real tough call. RJ had more skills in his prime than just about any fighter in history, and the sort of skills and speed that gave Hagler trouble (ie: Sugar Ray Leonard). Lots of big question marks about Jones, however, that we didn't have with Sugar Ray--for one, could RJ take a punch in his prime? I don't ever recall him getting hit really bad in his prime and Hagler sure could pack the lumber. Leonard had some all time toughness to go with his slick skills, and he proved it against a top notch level of opposition (Hearns, Hagler, Duran, etc.). Jones in his prime would have been hard for Hagler to hit, but if Hagler did hit RJ it may have been the end. Given Hagler's huge edge in the quality of opponents he fought, I'll tentatively give the pride of Brockton, MA (along with Rocky Marciano) the edge. I'll add a caveat that Jones at his best had the skills to beat anybody, but since we didn't really see him fight the best its all speculation as to whether his blinding speed, fast hands and incredible conditioning would have been enough to beat the Marvelous one.

I would like to Pick Marvin Hagler because he is my Favorite Boxer, but skill wise Roy Jones Jr. is the Man.
Hagler have difficulty Fighting with movers, as shown in his fight with Leonard and Duran.
Bt if Jones opted to slug it out like Mugabi and Hearns did then Bye bye Roy.
But Jones 12 SD

Jones would win by a decision.....and this is assuming they'd both be in their primes.
