A white, gooey-ish liquid comes out of my dog's butt sometimes and it smells terrible. It's just a little bit though. What is this and why does it happen?

Female, not pregnant, the color is yellow-ish. She's around 5 years old, if that matters. She doesn't do that butt dragging thing though. She's a pretty healthy dog.

In response to the first "answer", there's nothing to lose when I ask here so why not? And actually, there are plenty of qualified people here. I've gotten many good answers on past questions. And just take a look at some of the answers after yours. Sometimes, I learn from here that these kind of things turn out to be harmless so I just saved myself a lot of money and time. If it does have a possibility of being harmful, then great, THEN I know I should go to the vet.

Your dog probably has impacted anal glands...either you can squeeze it out or have your vet get it out. If it gets infected it could cause a lot more problems.

I thought you may be a troll, so I checked out your other questions. Turns out you are just a chick who has a 2 year old daughter that hates her. Seems you can afford to buy plenty of books to keep yourself entertained. And buy Japanese crayons, but you refuse to take a dog to the vet that is covering your daughter in @ss funk. The only reasonable answer here is to get the dog to the vet. I'm sure that you would rush your little daughter to the doctor, no matter how much she hits and slaps you, if she had something leaking out of her anus. How about you stop buying fantasy novels for a month and go to the vet!!

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU7Hw

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Yea, others are right...anal glands. Anyone who thinks poo is the worst smell hasn't smelled anal glands. These glands are located on both sides of the butt "hole", they are used as sent glands whenever the dog poos. Its what tells other dogs,"I'm a 6 year old male" its also why dogs sniff each others butt, to get that "info". Alot of smaller dogs and occasionally big ones too have problems getting these glands empty, that's when they will empty themselves wherever, (my favorite is on the couch!) or the dog will start scooting on the floor to try and empty them. Alot of dogs must be taken to the vet or the groomer every so often to get them emptied, its called "expressing the anal glands". This is something you should check into, take him to the vet anyway because the fact that it is whitish means they could be infected. Its easy to clear up with some antibiotics.
P.S.- don't listen to answer #1. Yea, some ppl don't know what their talking about but that's why you get multiple answers, so you can decide for your self.

the first one to answer is wrong... I mean obviously you would know when to call your Vet... but lots of people give good answers, and maybe none of them really know what they are talking about, but some of them sound like they could be right, you just have to weed out the BS, like the first guy. I always get really good information on here about my pups, and that doesn't take away me going to the Vet, just helps me in the meantime. At least it's not farts like my pups all the time!!!

This is definitely an anal gland problem..this is the dogs "scent releaser". Some dogs have problems emptying it completely on their own, which means you are going to want to take her to the vet or groomer and have them do it..If you want to learn how maybe they would teach you...Although it's really something most people refuse to do-not pleasant. I speak from personal experience! It will make your dog comfortable and stop you from having to smell that terrible smell. :)

If your dog is also dragging his bottom over the ground and doing a lot of licking of the area,it's probable his anal glands ,which normally empty naturally when it defecates, are full. I know of dog owners who know exactly where to squeeze to empty them --- but if were my dog I'd get a professional to do it.

it's probably your dogs anal glands releasing themselves... esp if it happens when he's growling or warning... it's a good thing because if they don't get released the dog has to go to the vet to have them poped like pimples and make sure they don't get infected. the anal glands are there to attract other dogs.. it's their "scent"... they're often released when the dog uses the bathroom but some release them more often then others.

It is most likely reformulated dog food. That answers the first question...

Your dog may have an intestinal infection... call a vet and ask....
