She's a big girl, and can make her own decisions. Whether or not you are interested in dating her, is another story. She is now free to pursue a relationship with you or whomever she wants. Just see what happens, ya never know, she might have wanted out of the relationship anyway. After all it is always easier to leave a relationship if you have someone waiting. Believe me, she would not have left a three year relationship if it was that strong, and if she really really loved him, so I doubt that it had much to do with you or anyone else. You might have just made it a little easier to leave.

For now just stay being her friend. Allow the old relationship some time to fade out. She may call the guy in two days and work it out... If you are kind to her right now, and do what is right, when she recovers from the break up she will see what she has with you. Now, if she is the one pushing for the hook-up, just talk to her and make sure that she is not just kicking it with you to make herself feel better for a day or two. Cause if is does something stupid with you, she may end up attaching you to the break up and moving on from both mistakes.

Don't be the rebound guy! Play it cool. Tell her you enjoy her friendship but that she needs time to get over the other long relationship. But enjoy her company in group stuff. Don't get out of her sight. Play it nice and easy.

Since you said you do NOT want to screw up your relationship with her since you guys are only friends.....NOW...PLUS as you say...you don't feel you can TOP him...are you in some competition??? I do not think so...But just keep telling her..."I feel we make better friends ".......then say later..."I would rather just keep things the way they are.".............KEEP saying those things alot so she does know...write them down if you have to!!! i hope i have helped!!!

u dont seem like u have the confidence to make the relationship work, if she likes u, then she must have seen some things in u that her ex didnt have. build up ur confidence, be yourself and see where it leads u.

Your chances here! Try to be her side every moment. Maybe she will notice that you love her. At this moment girls are very weak and need someone to care them so much.
Good luck!

where i saw this before? hmm....oh! in "boys and girls"
i think you take a title of that girl's best male friend. she asks you about dates and stuff, like we enjoy knowing things about girls from girls themselves, anyway, never mind. don't ask her about anything unless you are VERY sure or you will regret. i wish you the best of luck
