Anyone ever been to one of these shows or been hypnotized themselves? My girlfriend wants to go to this comedy club thing and get hypnotized. I think it might be cool, but I am a little worried about her. What will they make her do? Can it damage someone afterword, and just..well whats it all like. Any help would be appreciated. I've looked on the website and it seems cool, but..I just worry about her and don't want it to be something dangerous. Thanks. So..who has been hypnotized and whats it like...

A lot of people say that you won't do anything you wouldn't do normally when you are under. Not true. If the person hypnotizing is adept and knows how to instill the suggestion. They can get you to do just about anything. Most people can resist going into the trance state. When I started in psychology I was very interested in hypnotherapy. It was fascinating. Post hypnotic suggestion is the most dangerous and must be handled with care, but it is the most effective in therapy for bad habits, phobias and the like. I was in the class when the professor demonstrated mass hypnosis. Some people, if they are willing, are so susceptible they were under in five minutes. If it's a public event they will probably just have her do silly stuff.

A trained hypnotist will not make you do anythign that could endanger your life or others... too many lawsuits could be filed. Ive seen it done, but have not participated myself... all I can say is it was hilarious. What those under hypnosis do isnt embarassing simply because the audiencen knows the hypnotist has some control over the person. My friends who I talked to all say they were aware of what was happening, but weren't thinking for themselves. And who knows, maybe you or your girlfriend fall in the category of people who cannot be hypnotized, in which case you can sit back and enjoy the show.

hypnosis is a state of relaxation......
our subconscious mind is in control. if you have no morals you live by, you are open to any suggestion. you will not do anything outside your moral code, regardless of the hypnotist. we all go through hypnosis as we go to deep sleep. REM is rapid eye movement, a state of sleep when we are dreaming, just prior to this state is hypnosis. you are getting sleepy, is a key phrase used in hypnosis. relax. try it. self hypnosis puts you in the state where you can give yourself sugestions. so again if your moral code prevents certain behavior, hypnotic suggestion will not take.

I've been hypnotized. The thing is, they can't MAKE you do anything tha you would not otherwise do. It could be interesting to find out - in public - what she doesn't mind doing!

maybe a little embarrasment after you have to stand on one leg and crow like a rooster, but you really are always awake and you can resist it, if you want to. but most people arent under at all and still go along with those silly shows. nothing much to it.
