If you do consider one or more of these "peaceful," please explain in detail. If you don't consider one or more of these "peaceful," also explain please. I have done research into a variety of religions and am curious what others think.

Ya'll are a bunch of idiots. So far, not ONE person has answered my question. All you give me are generalizations. It is absolutely PATHETIC!!!!!
No, I am not e-mailing anyone to get an answer out of them, and I am not equating any of the religions that I mentioned with each other!!!!
Why can't anybody answer a question without giving them a run-a-round and a bunch of rhetoric. It is positively ridiculous!!!

How's this:

All four of those religions have played shrewd Machiavellian roles throughout world history. Catholicism and Christianity are ideologically similar, with the notable exception that Catholicism reveres the beatitudes (actually, making it effectively the most peaceful of all of the examples), but it's also rife with sexual tension -- and not just for the single pedantic reason that everyone loves to point out. It seems to inspire more shame and condemnation than it does peace or understanding.

Protestantism is advertised as peaceful, but if you spend 15 minutes watching the 700 Club, you begin to realize that the ear-to-ear grin is a sheep's costume they need to cloak their intentions in. Christian leaders terrify me, and their ability to convince decent people that it's necessary to ban books and rewrite science to evade an intimidating afterlife offers a counterfeit peace as its reward, at best. The protestant denomination of Christianity has been successfully used to acquire real estate and convenient divorces since the time of Henry VIII, and at one point, intentional rumors of Protestant persecution by Irish Pagans whipped the whole of England into enough of a frenzy to drive every spark of magic out of their culture, until they could be controlled ... Not exactly peace signs and flower power.

What little I do know about Hindu beliefs is that their religion assigns people to dwell in upper and lower social castes, which is downright fascistic, and certainly doesn't foster "peace" in the soul of the poor human being who wastes his whole life subserviently believing that it is a punishment for something he did wrong before. Having no Hell is lovely but not if Earth is a Hell some people are born to endure. It's another example of a religion designed at least in part to reinforce a social infrastructure where the privileged elite are unchallenged.

I really don't know enough about Islam to comment.

Very delicate and complicated topic. I find it interesting, though!
The religions you have mentioned do not fall under the category of "peaceful" in my book. The main reason is because they have been used to justify hatred, false judgments made without serious thought, and yes, even wars!
In all due respect, I also acknowledge that individual people can use any religion in a positive or negative manner, so the desires of the person's heart does make a difference, so I don't like to use words that create a blanket statement.
Religions that are based upon bloody sacrifice or strict rules not even appropriate for the day are in no way rooted in peace in my understanding. If love is the key, then let us all love with complete abandon! Another view is about eternal bliss or damnation. Neither one makes sense and appeals to the ego of mankind.

I think all religions are or can be very peaceful. Most religions preach of being kind to one another and living a good life.

Sadly, some religious people in almost every religion aren't so peaceful. There will always be bad apples but it's not the fault of the religion itself. People have free will to use and abuse.

*EDIT*
"Ya'll are a bunch of idiots."
So says the person who spells Y'all wrong

Well the core principles of every religion is same...Peace n Harmony. No religion tells to kill people. Its jus that people try to justify their actions on their distorted sense of the religion. So there's nothing like a peaceful or not so peaceful religion. N I think they should try to judge their actions by their conscience rather than rules laid by religion then maybe world would be a better palce.

I don't think there's much difference between muslim and christianity and I don't think catholicism or hinduism or ANY religion at all teaches their followers to go and have war with each other. I don't think this is a matter of religion at all but those who claim themselves as one and do something that makes others feels upset.

Muslim here. I will comment on my religion.

I don't think Islam is a pacifistic religion. It sanctions war in conditions of oppression.
but it prescribe peace when the "enemy inclines towards peace"

i don't understand how everyone else is judging religions based on history. you should judge them by what they teach.

You are wrong here you ought to compare religion not people because every race and religion have commited crimes against other race and religion in different frame of time .Second and most important not all of us really follow the religion in true sense.Third all religion preach peace and tolerence but now it depends upon indiviuals how they interpret it (Many of people dictate religion according to their terms not following their religion)
And last of all anyone who believes that his/her religion is peace ful it is just natural but the true peace lies in that we should live in harmony with each other And all these religion you have mentioned above believes in God in their own way we should leave some matters to God to decide which is right one or not..!
PEACE AND BLESSING UPON YOU

i don't think any religion is peaceful really. except for buddhism i suppose. many people have killed in the name of those religions that you mentioned. although they are really just using the religion to justify the killing they are doing. i don't know much about it, but i think buddhism seems the most peaceful. they accept people and don't try to force anyone into believing what they believe.

EDIT:

well i'm sorry that we are too stupid for you. just because you haven't gotten the answer you so obviously have planned out in your head for this question doesn't mean you have to be a *****.

please do not equate hinduism with them. Hindus never attacked any country to spread hinduism

hindus never use media, bribes etc to covert others to hinduism

Hinduism has no concept of Blasphemy and we dont have a pope like thing

anyone can criticise hindus and no fatwa will ever be issued

Hindus do not condemn non-hindus to hell, as for us each faith is a gift of god to the humanity to rise to spirituality

None of them is peaceful. All were tainted with blood. I used to think that Buddism is peaceful, however it also has a history of violence. Monks of different temple fought against each other.
