Homosexuality was in the books as a psychological disorder until sometime in the 60's or 70's, then it was disproven as a disorder. Now they are proving more and more that being homosexual is genetic. One example: if you spray male pheremones in front of a gay male, his brain will react the way a straight woman's would, if you spray it in front of a lesbian, her brain does not react, and you can reverse that with female pheremones. Another is that the brain and its components are slightly different in homosexuals and straight people. There are many other factors in someone being homosexual, but all start out with genetics, it might be "dormant" until some outside influence brings it out, or it might never come out, but it all boils down to genetics, as i know whole families that are gay, or at least bisexual. If you dont agree with it because of the bible, you should know that those verses were added by king james when he rewrote the bible for population control. If you actually go back to the original aramaic texts, you will not find those verses, along with a few others. Also, you should know that the bible was voted on by a group of men that left out some other texts that were written at that time since they didnt like what they said, as in the texts that were written by mary magdallin herself, where it shows a different relationship between her and jesus. Also, one thing to ask yourself, why would anyone choose to be something in which they know that they will become a second class citizen that will be hated by society, their families possibly, and may lead to a brutal death? Noone in their right mind would choose that kind of life.

It is not always a ''proven psychological'' disorder. My high school counselor and I once had a conversation about theories and homosexuality came up and he mentioned an interesting point which was, that some people are ''homosexual'' because of their childhood and ''not trusting the opposite sex'', they unconsciously feel safer, being intimate with people of the same sex. Also, I heard that it is not considerd a psychological disorder...Iv'e heard that theres a difference in homo and hetero sexuals' brains but none the less that would be considerd a disorder, or chemical imbalance. Basically, both brains are good, no right or wrong answer, there is just a difference. hard to explain lol :)

No, it is not a 'proven' psychological disorder. If it was proven, it would be listed in the DSM-IV.
This was an old concept from the '60's that was later abandoned. If it was a proven disorder, there would be a lot of parents putting their homosexual children in mental hospitals, as opposed to churches.

no. and all the major pychological associations say it's not a psychological disorder. the rightwing political propaganda group is actually not a reliable source of information. the american psychiatric association, on the other hand, does have a bit of say in what counts as a psychological disorder, and they say it's not. i'd like to see a source for your claim.
how long ago where those books written? it used to be considered a disorder at one point, but it hasn't been 4 a long time.

It isn't a disorder, it's a category of behaviour. So is heterosexuality, bisexuality, transexuality, and asexuality. There was a time when it was classified, along with all the other orietations but one that are mentioned here, as a psychiatric disorder. But it isn't any longer. Defining it as a disorder means categorizing homosexuals as mentally ill, which they aren't. Judgement on homosexuality is a matter of religious and moral ideology, not of medical or psychological pathology.

i really disagree w/ the claim that it is a disorder. it's not a "disorder", it's just an orientation. there's nothing wrong w/ being gay or straight. i recently saw a segment on 60 minutes that says a person's sexual orientation is now believed by many scientists to be developed in the womb depending on the amount of hormones the mother releases during pregnancy.
if this is true, then people are just born gay or straight, and that is how they are naturally supposed to be.
take a look at this article: http://cbs2.com/topstories/topstories_story_072091004.html
(one interesting quote from it: "Psychologists used to believe homosexuality was caused by nurture — namely overbearing mothers and distant fathers — but that theory has been disproved. Today, scientists are looking at genes, environment, brain structure and hormones. There is one area of consensus: that homosexuality involves more than just sexual behavior; it’s physiological.")

I JUST took a psych class and we went through this, homosexuality is NOT considered a psychological disorder. It does not make someone mentally ill. The only time that it is considered a problem, is if the individual is having a problem with it.

For years, homosexuality was listed as a psychological disorder. The DSM-IV mentions nothing about homosexuality itself as an illness, but does include a subcategory for significant distress about sexual orientation.

I agree insofar that gays are "wired" differently in the head. Homosexuality being a behavior and not a condition, leads them to want to practice what they do. The concept that gays are born that way means that they have no control over their actions with their own gender, iow, they can't help themselves.
