what do you think? Angelo Dundee? Emanuel Steward? Eddie Futch? Lou Duva? Or how about some of the newer trainers like Buddy Mcgirt, Freddie Roach, Floyd Mayweather Sr.? What's your take on this topic?

With a definite honorable mention to Angelo Dundee, I'd have to go along with Emmanuel Steward. He's shown an ability to make an average fighter good, a good fighter great and a great fighter even greater. One of the other posters noted his impressive record in championship fights--though I don't think 21-1 is correct. I can think of another title fight loss right off the top of my head, since he trained Tommy Hearns for his fight with Marvin Hagler. Still, the fact that he was largely responsible to taking a gawky young guy and turning him into the "Motor City Cobra" in the first place dispels whatever detriment to his record that loss brings about. The Lewis/Rahman loss probably deserves an asterisk, since I'm sure he knew that LL wasn't properly focused but what can even the best trainer do when Hollywood comes calling?

On some level, this is tough to evaluate since a lot of what makes a trainer great happens far from the view of fight fans--on an "results based" evaluation, however, I have to go along with Steward....

I like all of the three younger trainers you mentioned--particularly Freddy Roach, who's done a real nice job with Manny Pacquaio....

Emanuel Steward, has no equal when it comes to preparing a fighter for a fight, his record as a trainer/manager speaks for itself, the times his fighters lost a crucial fight were not his fault, either the other fighter was better or his fighter did not listen at him when sitting in the corner between rounds

I would have to go with Emanual Stewart. His record as a trainer in title fights is 21-1, the only loss being Lennox Lewis' loss to Hasim Rahman.
