Can't say I blame them. Like a previous answer, they have a more tangible effect on us than a god from a book.
It seems the gods we have today are more of a hands off approach. We depend on the fact that they don't really answer us. If they did it would be quite disastrous- it may not seem like this would be true but can you imagine a god punishing you for not going to church or taking away something important, everyone would be scared out of their minds. You can see this effect noticeably with the Catholics they make you go to confession and have a strangle hold on what you are allowed to do with your day to day activities. Same thing with Judaism and Muslims.
It certainly makes it easier to worship the sun- it shows up everyday and while clouds may cover or similar events it never really gets to know you personally and it obviously has lots of power. Of course the rain and rivers are worship-able as are mountains, the moon and anything else we see on a daily basis. In the end it really doesn't matter, religion is a tool to help people either guide their lives or at least make them feel better.

Yes they did .As they were a Nomadic people that worshiped the things that they had to work with to live. The sun, the moon , the weather, heat ,cold, rivers and so on. It is a more easier way of looking at things. But they also believed in a Spirit that made every thing . Thus the commands of GOD when Adam and Eve we taken out of the Garden of Eden. that they would have to work for a living if they wanted to survive . By tilling the soil and planting seeds to provide one type of food and to kill animals for another type of food and to use as many other parts as possible to create their own clothing.

The prevalent faith of the barbarians is Paganism. Althought the undemanding tenants have been the comparable, some components replaced from tribe to tribe. Like pagans in Hawaii worshiped in yet in any different case than Euorpean Pagans.

It does seem a bit simpler, although, respect seems more appropriate than worship.
