Good clubs are the key. Love golf too.
Can you hire a good set when you play as I know how expensive custom made ones are.
Now you have played with a set like that you will probably always compare your game.
However as someone who was raised in a golfing family and have never had a decent set of clubs, have you considered lessons?
Most courses have a pro and they might be able to help your game.
This may work out cheaper than expensive clubs and you will learn some key points.

I assume you are a women since you mentioned a male friend's club. Clubs designed for men are longer and usually have a stiffer shafts. If you are a good golfer then you may need stiffer shafts. Many good golfers tend to have a higher swing speed. Next time you are at apro shop, check out the men's section and try a few clubs with stiffer shafts. Doesn't matter what club. Calloway, Titleist, Cobra, Cleveland, Ping....they are all the same. Look for trade-ins or special deals. Get yourself fitted and talk to the pro. They may give discounts. Fitting also helps a lot. I started hitting the ball a lot better...straighter and farther after taking a few lessons and getting fitted clubs.

Hit them straight and long!!!!! :)

calloway has a junk shaft in it that is really about a senior flex. graphite or steel. and they are lofted strong. so it was about the right flex for a lady and u are hitting jacked up clubs. oh by the way. i have played several calloway clubs. the first thing i do when i buy them is change the shaft. i heard a sales rep tell me one time the calloway brand of graphite shafts cost 7.00 , a good steel shaft is twice that. and a good grahite. ten to 20 times that.

While the type of clubs you have CAN help your game, do not automatically assume you are going to suck if you don't get a "good" set. Just about any set of clubs will do well for you to learn with, you don't have to spend $1,000.
My brother in law played golf as a kid, so did I, he was on his college's golf team...had high priced clubs. I can beat the pants off of him with my father's old clubs.
It's all about ability...talent. Find a pro and take some lessons.

Men's clubs are normally heavier than women's clubs and you no doubt swung slower and concentrated more. Unless you are a very big or very strong woman, you should play better and hit the ball farther with a properly fitted set of women's clubs. They do not have to be name brand. Go to a local club maker and fitter and tell him what your budget is.

EVERYONE IS FEEDING YOU BULL, THE REASON YOU HIT THE BALL BETTER IS BECAUSE YOU WERE SWINGING EASIER AND MORE CAREFULLY( YOU DON'T WANT TO MESS UP SOMEONE ELSES CLUBS). TRY SWINGING THE SAME WAY WITH YOUR CLUBS, CONTACT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN POWER... HAVE FUN WITH THE GAME AND ENJOY LIFE!!!(GOLF IS JUST A WALK IN THE PARK)
